But when you load up the main singlespeed page, the pictures aren't shown there. You can just skip it, eh?

    What about....

Rather than having a sticky, which by the way, is ubercool, but takes too long to wade through, what about a SS gallery of sorts? A link on the page that would take you to a smogasborg (hopefully 'sp' makes his (or is it her????) way to the board) of vairous bikes. Perhaps even set up by model, so if people wanted to, they could loook for specific types of bikes?

You might want to try going into your options and setting it so you see only 10 or 20 posts per page while viewing a thread - it'll speed you up a lot.

Personally I like having one thread I can go to for my bike porn fix Also I think it would be cool for newbies and people thinking about trying the SS thang to see some sweet rides.

The MTBR picture gallery has a section devoted for SS, the problem is that it's a mess. Is there a way to convince the MTBR folks to segregate the gallery by brands or something similar?

Posting pics here is cool because is related to the discussion but having extra long, picture rich threads will drive everyone with a slow link crazy. I have a DSL connection and sometimes I've to wait a little for the thread to show up due to the amount of pics on it. My DSL isn't the best or fastest in the world but it's better than dial-up.

There already is a SS gallery in the "Gallery". Follow the link at the top of the page. Not many people post there or look at it.

If you do not click on the thread you do not load the photos. Also, if you choose "thread" view (like I do) you can browse the thread to find the new posts or just the ones you want to view without loading the pics.

It might be that by focusing all the bike porn pictures in one thread the other threads will become more modem-friendly. That's probably a long shot though

    Well then....

Rather than linking to a link to get to another link, perhaps a direct link to the SS Gallery link?

It all boils down to user interface (GUI, HMI, whatever you want to call it). If someone has to search for something by leaving a page, then having to remember the search instructions (go to the gallery, scroll down until you find the SS Gallery, etc. etc.) then the feature won't be used. If, on the other hand, there is a direct link to the SS Gallery at the top of the page, then even simpletons like myself can find it (and use it).

This way, we can all pile on the next post entitled "Let's See Your Singlespeed" by asking the poster to click the direct link at the top of the page, and see singlespeeds to their hearts content. Similar to the "I'm a Singlespeed Newbie, Please Help" posts where the poster is directed to the SS FAQ's.

    Just a thought.

Maybe a post that says "Hey, I just posted my new (Spot, Chester, Kona, etc) in the Pic thread!"

    It could help.

I don't know if it needs a sticky, every time someone uploads a new photo, it'll float to the top anyway. I guess if there is a long time between posts then it might slide off the bottom.

I just turn off the automatically load images features in my browser preferences. Then if there's something I want to see I double click it or right click/load image. But I think there's already enough stuff at the top of the page, so I don't want another sticky up there. The FAQ is good, but porn is scattered all over the place in here (which is also good) so we don't need another sticky to direct us to it.

yeah, I know I don't have to click on the link. I was partaking in the thread to simply voice an opinion. And like Geroge da Trog said, every time someone posts to the thread, it floats to the top. I also like what someone else said about deleting ALL posts that aren't pics of bikes. Keep the chatter down, make it a pure porn thread, y'know. I guess I just won't look at home.

Oh, and I am on the threaded view. I'll have to change my posts per page thingy though, see how that works.

A new reason to make it sticky:
The addition of the "list by thread creation date".
If you choose this option it makes the board work more like the old board where older posts continue to be pushed down the order. New replies do not pop it back to the top.

You don't have to download them all at once..

If you select the 'hybrid' view, you won't have to download all the replies -thus all the pics at once. You just scroll through the replies of a given post and if a certain reply looks interesting it will only download when you click on it.

I agree, and ask people to resize some of the pics so they are not so big.
