    Paradox?

Been thinking - uphills you can do by standing up and honking. Maybe get off and push if you can't make it (yet).

    Downhill you spin and freewheel.

Flats - these are rarely *totally* flat, and the slight variances in incline are where you seem to use gears the most.

So the notion of 'needing' gears for hills is misguided somewhat...

Gears for hills if you wanna ride faster but that doesn't mean SS can't do faster. With right technique, a lot of training, right ratio and right strategy.

I saw several time a rider using BMX uphills on road he's just stand and hammer and he's faster than any gears that I met.

How you gear is based on where you ride. Everything is steep where I ride. Just sayin'.

We don't quit riding because we get old.

Is it better to walk up a hill because you are SSing or bike up a hill because you have gears. I don't know myself, and Jesus didn't give an answer in the Gospels.
