    Newbie SS'er has two questions....

Hello all, I am buidling up an older Trek OCLV frame as a SS to see if I like it. My two questions are:

    1) I will be using a conversion kit with my 8 spd. Shimano cassette. Will I need to use a chain tensioner?

    2) I could use a suggestion regarding gearing. I am a CC rider and strong climber

    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

    1) Yes, you will need a chain tensioner.
    2) The "industry standard" if there is one is 2:1, but I suggest riding your bike and figuring what gear seems good for you. Don't follow the hype about being a man and all that crap. Use your head and you will be able to use your knees when you are older.
