New to SS, finished my bike

    Hey all,
so I've been mountain biking for less than two years, and I've progressed from cheap geared 26er hardtail to FS 26er, to FS 29er, and now to SS. I picked up a used 2008 Kona Unit 2-9 frame on CL, and paired it with one of the cheap Marz 44 Micro Ti forks. The rest of the build was from parts on hand, with the exception of the tires -- Geax Gato TNTs.

These tires are great for doing ghetto tubeless. The bead is a little on the tight side, so they wouldn't mount to the Sun Ringle Chargers I was putting on my FS. I decided to repurpose them for my SS, running non-tubeless Mavic rims with Stan's yellow tape and a brass Schrader valve cut from a tube. They aired up easily (with my compressor) and are holding perfectly with a little Stan's sealant in each wheel.

I got a wheelset that is QR15 so I could swap wheels with my FS 9r if I wanted to. The rear hub is 9-speed cassette, so I got the Sette conversion kit off Pricepoint -- can't beat 10 bucks. The crankset is an old RaceFace Ride XC cheapie off an old bike, 32T with a bash. I'm running an 18T cog in the back.

Looking forward to finding out what all the fuss is about.

You may hate it at first but then you'll love it and it will be the only bike that you ride. That's what happened to me.

If the shock doesn't lock out you might find you hate the bob climbing. Good looking bike though.

That's the Marzocchi 44 Micro Ti that Chainlove has been fire-selling. It seems everyone here who has a 29er has jumped on at least one. Anyway, it definitely has lock-out. Thanks!
