Need Help Selecting a Crankset for my Surly Stainless Steel 104x32t Chainring

    Hello,

I'm in the process of resurrecting a 2008 Haro Mary SS I got of Craigslist for $125.00. I picked up a gently used Surly Stainless Steel 4 bolt 104 bcd x 32t Chain-ring for it @ $20.00 bux as well.

So now I need to find a crank-set that will allow me to use my chain-ring. I kinda put the cart before the horse on this one but i'm sure it will work out with you all helping me.

What are some good light cranks that work well with SS bikes and or this BCD of 104. Are most DH / FR / DJ cranks 104 BCD?

I'd like to not spend too much more than $100 if possible and if I could find a good used set or take off that isn't beat to crap that would be awesome as well. The cheaper and lighter the better however I am partial to RaceFace and SRAM.

I know this bike came with Truativ Stylo cranks originally.

    T.I.A.

I have that exact same crankset on my Sette Reken 26er. Got it for 45ish with BB in Dec. off Blueskycycling.com. It's not bad I just wanted something a little lighter this time. I might give it another try on my 29er.

I'm open for other options as well though.

Those 4 bolt Surly stainless chainrings have a bit of a reputation for self-destructing.

Oh that's nice! I bought it because I thought it would be sturdier and it wouldn't have the ramping teeth \ pins that a normal chain-ring/crankset would have.

I have owned my Surly ring for about two months and have bent it 3 times. my old chainring which was a cheapo AL one I got with the bike was on for over a year and never even thought about bending. All riding on the same trails... I will be sorcing a new chainring soon as I dont want to go the bash guard route.

I will try to find a bash for this bike most likely. I think it cleans things up a bit when running 1 by.
