Looks like he led a good life, lucky dog I'd say.

I saw a great poem about a dog who has departed, instructing his master to not morn too long and to share his bowl, toys and his master's lap with another, deserving puppy. It's a hard thing to consider but knowing that a pup has lived a great life and wants that life for another deserving dog is a touching sentiment.

    And there's the rainbow bridge.

Beautiful pup. Sorry for your loss.

He looks like he was a great dog. Everyone who has had one and then lost it knows how hard it is to be where you are.

Doggies are made to be loved and there's another one that needs a good friend when you're ready.

I'm going to cry a little bit now.

I'm so sorry. He looks like he was/is a great friend.

Man's best friend indeed. Nothing better than
Being out on the trails with a four legged companion.

Sorry for your loss, they are true friends. It is painful, but that means it was all worth while...good times and bad.

Brings a tear to my eye mate, but he was so lucky to have you, and you him, when theres been love, and man and dog can see each other from the same level, then its a story of triumph not of sadness, keep that triumph in your mind in front of the sadness mate, because thats what its a story about.
    cheers bro.

Always sad to lose a dog ... my condolensces.

No doubt the most painful part of truly loving an animal is saying goodbye.

    Best wishes

Sorry to hear. Been there before myself, for me eventually the pain was replaced by an open spot that wanted to be filled by another dog. Took a few months.

Sorry. I lost my lab last year and can somewhat relate to how you feel. Rest easy knowing you gave your dog a great life.

Sorry for your loss. Those pictures are great though and Tar looks like he was a happy dog.

Great looking dog. May sweet memories buoy rather than sadden you.

Sorry to hear it man. Love the pics though, seems like he had a good life. I'm gonna go cry a little too I think. Then wish my dogs were big enough to run on the trails with me.

    Sorry for your loss.

I live in Colorado and was doing some backcountry snowboarding and was hanging out at the top of a summit having a beer playing with my dog. It was the first time i took my dog with me and he was having a grand old time!

A guy comes up with a small box and it looks like it could be scotch or something. He then asks politely if we would mind if he could spread his dogs ashes in his dogs favorite spot. I almost teared up immediately. He told me that this was his dogs favorite spots and the first place he took him bakcountry skiing.

I was going to leave him alone but he started talking to me. My dog looked exactly like his old one, a black lab mix.
I told him thsi was my labs first time backcountry skiing and that put a giant smile on his face.
    Pretty awesome!!

He was a one speed kinda guy; all in or... **** off, its nap time. Wasn't much we didn't explore together.

Appreciate you all letting me vent. And the kind words.

What a great looking lab! So sorry for the loss. I just took my 12 year old lab to the vet today and found out she gas a torn acl. She hasnt been able to come on the bike in a couple of years, but she was still hunting stronga month ago. I tear up every time I read about someone losing a dog. They really are the best friend you can ever have. Get a pup soon!

    Uncle Grumpy
People who can form a loving, trusting bond with an animal are good people. Dogs know.

He was one beautiful looking fella. I love the first photo. "Why are you standing in the water?" "Because I'm a dog. We do stuff like that." Dogs do goofy things and I think they know it amuses us.

I've been there recently so I understand your loss. I was in the middle of a single malt whisky when I opened this thread, so, here's to Tar. And to you Trout Bum, here's to happier days ahead.

I feel for you man. I lost my old dog at the beginning of the month. Nothing makes the loss of such a friend easier. You have my greatest sympathy.
  • 12-28-2012
Many of us understand this all too well. You have my sympathy.

I understand the unconditional love that mans best friend will have for his master....one of my dogs not only loves me but protects my life daily at work. Hes a true warrior and i dunno what i will do when he passes. Theres not too much we dont do together.
