Mangled Mess 3x7 to Budget SS?

A few hours ago, I was zipping down a hill, trying to change gears in the rear. I encountered some resistance, then heard a strange noise and felt the rear wheel lock up. It skidded to a flat. This is the mess that's left.

It used to be my kid's bike, but I inherited it as a commuter bike/workout bike. It's always ridden on the road, 99% of the time in the highest gear it has. It was a 3x7 setup. I'd like to get it rolling again for as little money as possible. (All my discretionary spending goes to my real MTB.)

Option 1 -- Find an old derailleur, throw it on, along with a used chain I have, and be done with it.
Option 2 (preferred) -- Get that other chain, trim to fit the length needed to run from largest ring to smallest cog, add a cheap tensioner and go.
Option 3 -- Spend money to get a ss chain, cog, ring and spacers, along with a tensioner, to give it the full ss treatment.

Would love to know your opinion. Of course I could be totally off track in my assessment of the options. Thanks.

I'd get a new derailleur hanger and new derailleur. Total investment $40-60 with a new chain. This assumes you don't have any broken spokes, most likely that wheel will need some attention from a mechanic.

    Option 2 is impossible

Option 3 is not well thought out. You don't need, or really even want, a SS chain. A cheap 8 speed chain is better 95% of the time. It sounds like you'd need a pretty big gear and SS comes with some tradeoffs.

Here's some basic info should you be interested.

Stop asking how much it weighs and just go ride it.
