Looking to up-size rear tire on Rockhopper SS 29er

So I picked up my 09 Rockhopper Expert Disc 29er SS (23") at a blowout price of $650 today and am looking for a larger higher-volume rear tire to go on the factory wheel.
I'm 225 lbs riding in FL and my main trail (8 miles) is flat and relatively slow with lots of tight turns and packed with palmetto roots. The trail is a mainly hard-pack with some sandy areas.
As mentioned prefer to start out with the factory wheel (tubed).....hoping to improve grip in corners and absorb the palmetto roots better.

Stock Tire: Specialized Fast Trak Control, 29x2.0", 60TPI, aramid bead, 2Bliss ready
Stock Wheel: Specialized RHD 29", double wall disc, pinned w/ eyelets, 28/32h

    Recommendations appreciated

you can get a 2.3 kenda small block 8, and that would work awesome with hard pack. It's really fast rolling and has decent volume for bump absorbtion.

It's heavier but an Ardent 2.4 with exo sidewalls is very "cushy".

I run one on my Monkey. You can run lower pressures and it takes a lot of the sting out of roots.

Really depends on what you want. has a great review fwiw
