Iron Horse warrior sport single speed?

A guy made this Iron Horse warrior 2003 in excellent condition sport into a single speed. He wants to trade me for a Playstation Portable gaming system w/2 games /1 gig ram card/32mb card/case.The gaming system is probably worth 200.00 total.Would it be a fair trade?I own a Giant Trance fs already.I am wondering what the advantage of a single speed is .I see they are pretty popular here on the forums.Would the horse even be a good single speed once converted? It looks by the picture there is some chain slack too.should that be addressed? What should i look for as far as far as the conversion goes?Just juicing your brains.Thanx.RB

Ask on the SS forum. You'd probably get some good opinons there too.
That's a big front ring though.

You could buy a chain tensioner that bolts right into where the rear derraileur goes for about $20 and a smaller front chainring (if you need it 32 teeth is common for singlespeeding) would run you about $30 for a decent non ramped ring.
