i need some help with my 3 speed set up

i know its a little crazy, but i'm making my dh bike a 3 speed, its only got the gears i use. i do most of my riding in the whistler bike park, so i dont realy pedal that much.

this is what i got so far.

the chain is set as short as it can go (bottemed out in the first cog). put it still skips when i pedal, not like its trying to jump to a different cog, just jumping some teeth. took off the plastic roller and put the jocky wheel on because i thought that it was the problem.

the best idea i can think of is to try and find one of this, and toss the rear tensioner.

Do you want it to shift? Hello drivetrain forum.

Do you want to have to shift manually? I might use an old rear der and exchange the stock limit screw with an extra-long AH one, so I could easily dial it in from gear to gear.

An old rear der will allow the jocky pully to hug the cogs, eliminating slip that causes chain jump.

P.S. This still should be moved to the drivetrain forum.

Good luck finding a tensioner that will allow you to do that without chain skip. I believe you'll need to go with something that reverses chain direction (like a rear der) but this would necessitate pully alignment. Pully alignment would necessitate dialing the tensioner in with each "shift."

    Hope you find a way.

P.S. Personally, I'd go with a rear der and a shifter on the handlebar.

I agree with Sparticus; looks like you don't have enough chain wrap on the rear cog. Looks like you're only engaging 5 teeth in the middle gear.

Have you tried setting the tensioner to push *up* rather then down? Not sure if it's possible with this tensioner, or would even work for your application.

    Luck.
