Help Me restore my 2003 Cannondale 1Fg BadBoy

I just got my hands on a 03 1FG frame, fork and EBB and i want input on what components i should get for it. I already have a F3 for trails so i am thinking of turning it into a commuter. Should i get 700c wheels or 26" wheels and just use slicks? The frame is kind of weathered so should i just restore it and keep the raw Al and clearcoat look or should i paint it flat black and make it a true SS BadBoy? Any other comment or suggestion will be gladly considered. This is my first build so any advice will help also. I am 6'3" and 220, the orignal specs call for a 32/16 will this be a good package or should i get on my F3 and play around with those see what suits me best? Also what gear will a 16T be on a 9 speed cassette?

    It would be the 16t.

Seriously tho, optimum gearing will depend on whether you want to off-road it or set it up commuter.

Nice frame. Best of luck on the restoration. I say keep 'er raw.

    Keep it in the dirt...

Just one opinion but I'd keep it in the dirt. I'd also consider ditching the headpogo fork at your weight.

The optimo frame is sweet and even with my current setup as a 69'er with fat tires it still only weighs 24lbs and some change.

Ran mine with fox rlc for a bit and it was a huge improvement but very much XC race feeling. With the current setup mine is more trail oriented and fun as hell.

Good luck regardless of your choices and nice find! (older pics attached)

Sorry for the crappy pics but here is the current setup I'm running. Hoops are WTB handbuilt with surly hubs and a WI freewheel (2:1).

I just turned my f4 into a commuter with 700c wheels and tires. I kept this one a 1x9 for bike path duties and enjoy it a lot.

So your riding off road with. Rigid fork. I am setting mine up this way, hope I don't break it' if I don't maybe I am not riding hard enough.
