Help me with my 1FG / Headshok prob?
I just picked up a used 1FG Ultra (w/headshok). I can't for the life of me figure out why it pulls to the left when I take my hands off the bars. In fact, when I ride I can feel a slight (barely noticeable) pull to the left but it almost jerks left when I take my hands off.
The headset feels smooth - Is it a Headshok thing - do they pull left? Maybe the tires?
It doesn't pull left when braking nor when it's balanced in the bike stand. Is it possesed?
I CAME I SAW I CONQUERED
I would check for cracks in the frame/fork.....
Then check the wheels and tires. A tire may have a broken bead. If you don't see
anything you can take it to your LBS and they should have frame and fork alignment
tools they can use on it to check it's alignment and the trueness of the wheels.
The bike may have taken a hard hit and something got tweeked out of shape.
Be advised, if your use to riding you MTB w/say 1.9 to 2.1 tires and your 1FG has
the big ol Maxis 2.35's on it, that may be what your feeling. I rode mine once and
the tires had to go, they where heavy and caused the bike to handle poorly.
My 1FG now rides great and as w/all C-dales has razor sharp streering and yours
should as well.
Good luck.....hope you get it worked out, if so you'll probably love the ride.

An easy thing to check -
If you're running v-brakes, swap the quick release and mount the wheel backwards. Does it still pull in the same direction? If so, it's not the wheel / tire.
If you're running disks, yank the caliper off the fork and swap the wheel.
If the steering pull goes the other way, it's likely a tire issue (casing damaged or not seated properly). Replace the tire and see if it goes away.
