My DS-1 has horizontal dropouts. Theoretically you won't need a chain tensioner with horizontal dropouts because you can adjust the rear wheel to take up the slack. I couldn't ever achieve that without my rear wheel slipping so I just ended up using an old derailleur as my tensioner on it with the wheel slid up all the way forward. I don't know if the newer DS-1 frames switched to vertical dropouts or not. If so, then you will either need to figure out your "magic gear ratio" or put on a tensioner.

As far as a fork, I have a 4" RS Judy that I bought cheap. I have a 2003 'Zoke Z-1 with 5" of travel that I will eventually put on there. Fork choice depends on how you are going to use your bike.
