Front rim and tyre choice for rigid ss

Hi all. I am riding a rigid 26" single speed on woodland trails...so lots of stumps and roots mostly wet in the UK. I currently use a mavic xm117 with a continental baron 2.3 (more like a 2.1) at the front. Every now and then i buckle the front rim so i am looking for a rim with a bit more strength and a larger volume tyre. Currently looking at the mavic 321 or 521...the only difference between the two is that the 521 is a welded join and the 321 is a pinned glued joint? Also with the rim of the 521 or 321 being wider i would feel betrer about using a larger volumw tyre...been considering the continental trail king 2.4.
I use inner tubes btw...so not really considering a tubeless ready rim.
What are other rigid riders using?

definitely try the larger casing....rim choice is personal, I get away with a crest but doesn't sound like you will.
