Not the face! Not the FACE!!!

Dang. That thing looks like it suffered instantaneous catastrophic failure. Hope you aren't suffering too badly. Good luck, heal fast and be happy you're alive, eh?

I was on a slickrock/singletrack downhill that a lot of freeriders shuttle.
unfortunately I was on the rock section.
It had been on my bike about three years or so.
here's my face Before it swelled up and my eyes blackened.

Sorry to see that you got so hurt. That's scary ...I though steel was supposed to bend before it totally snaps? Take care of yourself.

This photo alone provides me all the reasoning I will ever need to continue riding with a full face carbon fiber helmet.

I hope the healing goes well....if not, I hear there's a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills who is running a special on Brad Pitt look alike noses.

that's rough dude, hope it heals.
last summer i did something similar, but it was because i was shitfaced (due to alcohol, not the pavement...yet) riding my road bike. passed out and landed on the edge of the pavement. similar injury to yours except it was all lip, not nose. it swelled bad, and i thought i would be forever ugly as sin. the good news is there's lots of blood flowing to the face and it heals well. 8 or so months later, the scar is not nearly as thick as it once was and not very noticeable. hope you have the same luck

Yeah, I think it won't be too bad. My friend got his ass kicked by some bouncers at a bar last summer (not his fault...seriously), with the worst around his left temple. There's definately a scar, but it's not hugely noticable, and continues to get better. The only thing he has to watch out for is the sun...the new skin burns much more easily, so it looks worse if he doesn't slather the sunscreen on.

Good luck healing up man, that looks like you had one hell of a wreck.

Ain't that a bummer. I hope you fare alright, despite how you look now. If it makes you feel any better, I went down with no associated equipment failure and came out looking much worse - perforated septum, seperated my lips from my gums, torn frenum, etc - I need ~300 stitches and a plastic surgeon to get put back together. I'll throw some pics up if I get the whim.

Anyway, I hope you're alright. Surly makes a damn fine rigid, and I trust it more than my Z1, for what it's worth. Heal quick - S

Man, Keith...and I thought the crash at Bull Mountain that left you tangled up in your bike and the tree 20ft off the trail was bad. But this one just sucks!

    Hope you recover quickly.

Holy shite! I hope you're feeling better. Honestly, there were a couple of kids around here that faceplanted and looked about how you do and they healed up fine. Granted, they're kids, but I'm assuming you'll be fine.
