Frame to build a cheap single speed?

I am a poor college student, a private school sounded like a good idea at the time. But I have been thinking of building up a single speed but really would like to leave my 9.8 as my race bike. I have been looking for a Trek 930 or 820 frame or whole bike. Is there any others I should keep my eye out for?

Thanks for your help.

IMO, the older steel Specialized products (Stumpjumper/Rockhopper) make dandy SS's.

Semi-horizontal dropouts usually make it easy to find the "magic gear", and the steel frames make for a sweet riding bike. Can be had for a song on Ebay, or perhaps your LBS.

I've had the same Stumpy steel frame since '91, and I can't kill it!
