Road bikes are for training only...........

    Well,
What can I say. Unless you have Tour de France aspirations, road bikes are for training, for when the trails are sloppy, and for when you are in a hurry and cannot get to the trail.

    Ah, what darkside Darth?

that's a remarkably closed minded perspective

for a rasta-poseur. how can you look at those pictures, see a tough slog through rough, hilly conditions and discount that experience from "epic" to "training?" get real, little boy.

Road bikes are just for riding.

Screw training. It's just another way to have fun.

Well, yesterday I raced a road crit in the morning and then went for an mtb group ride in the afternoon. Saturday i was on a long road ride with some Cat 3 racers and one (who doesn't ride dirt) turned to me and said, "Isn't this better than mountain biking?" I told him, I don't pick.

It's a bike, 2 wheels and pedals. It's all fun and if you're going to be a snob about it you're missing out.

But generally, I get more mtb'ers turning their noses up to road riders than road riders turning their noses up to dirt. Stuff like this.

What can I say. Unless you have Tour de France aspirations, road bikes are for training
    Or this

Road riding is like masturbation, it counts for something...
If you ever read the road forums, you will rarely see similar anti-dirt talk.

No, road bikes are for riding. Just like any other kind of bike.

For a "retro grouch" you sure are an elitist snob.

so unless I have world cup or olympic aspirations i'm not allowed to ride off-road either? or since this the ss forum, velodrome track dreams?

they're different experiences with similar outcomes: fun and health.

Actually, you are referring to a car if that is the case. Ha, as much as I hate riding the road bike, if I had to choose between riding a bike or driving, I'd ride a bike.

The guy posted some nice pics of an SS and suddenly this place turns into a Passion slugfest over a meaningless issue.

WTF? New board, new babies? Isn't it enough that this new format is a PIA to get used to?

I admit I've posted some really stupid things on MTBR, but I'm not sure I've ever posted anything this lame........ except for the male porn calendars.

Ride whatever the f you like, but please don't get all high and mighty because you ride a singlespeed mountain bike, mahn. You're not the only one who does so.

Thanks for the post KgB, it has me jonesin for FU. Only a couple more months until the FFTF!
