    Dissuade me

    ...Or not

I have been waffling back and forth between the Redline monocog Flight and the Kona Unit. I have heard comparatively more good reviews on the Kona. my intended use will be mostly singletrack and perhaps some races. so.... what it comes down to is that i believe i have made up my mind on the Kona, but if there are any Flight fans that can help me change my mind again i'd be happy to hear your side of the story

ps i know this has been beaten to death

Any possibility for you to try them both and figure out which one you fit the best?

I don't think that that is a possibility i have a very limited LBS base. Believe me it would be great to be able to do that, that's the type of person i am. Alas i have to be condemned to make a decision without trying it first.

I haven't ridden the Kona, but I've only heard good things about it. I have a MCF, which is great, except for one things. Rear tire clearance. I've got Saguaro 2.2's back there and it barely clears. Other than that, it's a great bike.

I don't think you could lose with either.

Probably not the best choice for racing but there are some great deals on the Trek Sawyer right now. About the same price as the Kona Unit and a choice of geared or SS.

I really like my 2011 Kona Unit, as I getting more serious with my biking
I am upgrading the drivetrain and wheels, I myself thinking of doing
a endurance type race this upcoming season , and no you dont need
$$$ feather weight bike to race you will be fine with the Kona .

I like my MCF 29er, and I think there is more room out back than P nizzle sez. My 26" could do 2.3" on wide rims without much of an issue. My 29er has a skinny 2.25 on a really narrow rim and lots of room. My problem with the MCF 29 is that I feel like I get a lot of pedal strikes. I looked up the numbers and the BB height is similar to the MCF 26 (not as many), so like my friends, it is must be my imagination.

Here is a pic of the Saguaro's on WTB Laserdisc rims. The little rubber knobs are touching. But if I move the wheel back, the clearance will be better, but still not a ton of clearance, IMO. Not a problem on my N9 (second pic). But I don't think I'll need anything bigger than 2.2's back there, so no biggie. In fact, I'm thinking of going smaller since I'd like less rolling resistance.
