    Dean Duke SS & "SingleBike"

I got this just after Christmas, 8 weeks from when I ordered it, as quoted. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Dean has always given me a fair shake and this is the 3rd frame I ordered from them direct.

It's a 2005 disc only with the mod dropouts. I finally got it built. I still need to put some time in to see if I need a riser instead of my 26" wide Salsa flat bar.

This is not only my SS but it's my only bike right now. You think SS is simple, try only having one bike - "SingleBike" is very liberating. I dropped from 3 bikes to this one - Not to say I'll always only have one bike, but it feels good right now.

I'm livin' the "SingleBike" life and lovin' it.

    Enjoy the pic.

32x18 but if you use a 1/2 link....

The drops are vert. Dean is supposed to come out with a horizontal drop with adjustable disc mounts soon. But in the mean time, 32x18 fit perfect on this 2005. I had a large 2001 Duke with the vert drops and 34x17 fit perfect.

With the mod dropouts on a 2005 large, you could file them a tad or use a slighly stretched chain and fit 33x17. The mod dropouts are cool becuase you can file away and just replace them if you need to.

So for me, I guess the chainstay length on my frame is 16.713" becuase 32x18 fits with all new cog, ring and chain. If it were 16.701 33x17 would fit. I'd only have to file .012 off which is a very little bit.

If you use a 1/2 link, 32x16 and 34x18 will fit a 16.701 chain stay.

What you have to understand is when you are dealing with the third decimal place that I think the chain stay lengths vary quite a bit. I bet one frame comes out 16.700 and another 16.725, and so on. It's really a trial and error thing.

http://www.peak.org/~fixin/personal/fmu/php/formfmu.php is the link where you can plug in your chain stay length and see if a 1/2 link will help you.
