    Custom Cromoly Stem - Recommendations?

Anybody know of any builders who will make a custom-sized cromoly stem with a quick turn-around-time? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry, I don't. What would you want a custom steel stem? Why not an off the shelf stem in Al (less flex)?

Well Ken.....if somebody made an off the shelf stem in the length and rise I need then I wouldn't be inquiring about a custom stem. Steel ...because I like steel and a little bit of flex for the riding purpose of the bike I am building is not such a bad thing.

Salsa used to have a custom stem program, not sure if they still do. Otherwise, check with a custom (steel) frame builder.

This just popped up on the framebuilder's email forum. It might not help you find a builder, but it probably whets your pallette just a bit more... (The PCD lugs can be found at www.bikelugs.com, I think; any framebuilder should be able to braze one together for you.)

    PCD/Darrell's lugged stem

I just finished one of these stems. It's not painted and I don't have any
pictures. You guys know what it looks like anyway. I made a 13cm and just
weighed it on my neighbor's laboratory scale (i.e. it's quite accurate) and
it weighed 211g including bolts and shim. It doesn't include paint so that
will add some weight. But the point is have you guys/gals seen what most
carbon and aluminum stems weigh? It looks like 150-200g is average. I
think that's funny. If one were to read magazine reviews, the steel stem
would be tank-like. Anyway, next time a customer tries to bust your chops
    about steel remember these numbers.
