    Correct chain tension

Just converted my vert dropout mtb frame to ss. Chainline is dead-on and I also purchased a Rennen tensioner. Bolted everything up and wondering if there is a rule of thumb on how tight chain should be? Is it better to be on tight side or loose side?? Thanks.

Start with 1/8" - 1/4" of sag on the top run of the chain and experiment from there. Is your tensioner spring loaded or soild? If spring go ahead and wind it up tight. Ride some rough stuff and see the the chain comes off. I always lost mine on a rough downhill when it was to lose. I don't think that you need to worry about the chain skipping it will bounce off before it skips. Make it tight enough to keep it from jumping off. Excessive tension will cause premature component wear.

    Thanks for the advice"chop"

Yeah, I don't need any excessive component wear as I just bought the ENO and installed a Phil Wood BB $$$$.
