    Chain falling off

Repeatedly. Alignment was right, tension was right.
Surly front and rear, 8/9 speed chain. 08 XT cranks.

I'm thinking my chain is too narrow. Thoughts?
I actually like SRAM chains so would like to stay with these.
Do I need a narrower chain? If so, will a PC-1 work?

    THANKS!!

I ran a KMC Z410 chain on surly stuff for 6 or 8 months and NEVER once dropped the chain. Plus they come in cool colors.

That's probably the route I'm going.

    How's your J-Wock treating you?

Sorry to threadjack but i have a quick newb question. How to i make sure my chain is aligned? I have an 08 XXIX with an EBB. Just adjust the BB until the chain looks straight? Or, is there a more precise way of doing this?

You need to measure it. There is a sheldon brown article on it, in fact.

no, i don't think a narrow chain will solve your problem. there is no problem with using a 1/8" chain, as long as the chain isn't defective.

i use an 8 speed chain (SRAM) on my fixies and SS bikes. have never thrown a chain.

something isn't adding up. chainring loose or bent? extreme frame flex? bad (stiff) link in the chain? wheel straight in the dropout?

Well I've had it for about 9 months now and still haven't found a single thing I don't like about it. I've fiddled with some parts, done some fine tuning but I'm loving it.

This is on my converted Zaskar. Surly push-up singlerator with SRAM 1/8" chain never dropped on me, even through rocky drops

This config wraps more of the chain on the rear cog. Bulletproof so far.

I think I need a WIDER chain b/c (I think) the Surly stuff is slightly wider than other brands. (I said narrower in my OP but it was a mistake!!)

Everything is lined up properly and the frame is stiff (J-Wock)
