I've got an old 1" Suntour/WTB Greaseguard BB in my SS. The press-fit bearings are pretty old and I'm getting a lot of creaking from that area, so I figured it's time to replace em. Last night I pulled the cranks (Truvativ SS square taper) thinking I might pry out the outer seal and grease the bearings for the temporary creak reduction. Then I saw something funky that makes me think maybe my creaking is coming the spindle/crankarm interface.........

Guess I've been over-torquing my bolts (but only enough to slow down the incessant loosening/creaking). Cause now the inboard side of the sqaure taper hole is deformed in the shape my spindle end and the edges are puckered out a little. Steel spindle eats aluminum cranks, so I guess I'm gonna have to trash these ones.

Any advice on good alternatives?? I've heard that Truvativ bolts can loosen up, but are they known to be soft??? I guess I'm a ham-handed wrench...
