Anybody wanna SS WNC Saturday am?

Hit it before the rain, I say.

I'm leaning towards DuPont, but will go with the flow
    if others are interested.

Dupont is nice, but weekends were made for Pisgah

I am heading to Pisgah this Saturday. DuPont is usually where I go for a quick ride but for me weekends were made for Pisgah (unless I am riding with the kids).
If you are coming from Sptbrg up I-26 just take 191 through Hendersonville out to Mills River, it isn't that much farther.

If you are interested shoot me a message. Gearing for Saturdays ride is 32X20 due to the extended nature of the climbing, not super steep just fairly long and the lower gear makes it more enjoyable. Pace is sociable with chatty rest stops when needed to get the ticker below redline and to enjoy the view, and tree huggin is the code for the day (tree huggin = grabbin a tree to catch your breath/rest up)

Possibly car pool, I am on your way if you get off I-26 @ exit 23

    Sounds good, I'm in

Weather is looking good... for the season
    - should be a good ride.

Unfortunately, I'll have to muddle through in 32:18. After my first couple
rides up there I see the value in a 20, but haven't got one yet!

Drop me an e-mail and we can get the specifics - time, meeting place,
etc. I can haul 2 bikes and riders in style, and three without excessive
    misery.

    Thanks!

I used to ride a 32x18 at DuPont all the time, then I got busy at work and home and now voila a couple of pounds around the middle and a 32x20.
I was planning to ride Laurel Mountain to Pilot Rock which is an absolutely awesome ride, with incredible views almost the whole way.
It is longish, 7mi climb up, some very mandatory walking so bring comfortable shoes, 3 mile down with some technical stuff (rocky switchbacks), and a couple back to the start. I am no racer body nazi and would rather have a pleasant ride for all parties involved rather than prove my manhood (not much to prove there) at some ones expense.
If you are game to try your hand at the ride, then pack a lunch and plan on taking a few rest/snack breaks on the up part so as to not blow up.
I am flexible about the time but prefer starting before 11 due to length of the ride.

Endoman if youíre coming from TN, 11:00 shouldnít be too early, fire a mail out to Zach and well get the details worked out.

Itís all good if every one has a good time.

    10:30 Laurel Mountain it is.
Zach I shot you a mail but if you know where the Laurel trail head is cool well meet there.
Being such a long ride let's drop a car at the base of Pilot Rock Loop, it could be a life saver if somone is bonking, and if the spirit and legs are there I would like to add the Pilot Rock loop in at the end of the ride (he says from the safety of the office).

    10:30 Laurel Mountain Trail head

Yup, straight through the camp ground and up the hill, after you top out it is just down the other side a couple of hundred yards. Trail on right, parking on left.

Letís drop a car down at where Pilot Cove/Slate Rock Tr. Comes out (the end closest to the Laurel Mt. trail head)

Looks like 3 for the ride (a major SS group out here in the hinterland I guess)

    See you around 10:30
