38t NW Chainring on an 11-36t Cassette

    Bike Newbie here...

I have a Raceface 38t NW chainring in which I plan to install together with an 11-36t cassette. I was just wondering if this is possible. Our LBS mechanic told me if I install such chainring, it would affect the chain line and makes shifting not smooth. I am currently running a 1x10 setup with a 32t chainring upfront. MY cranks btw is an SLX. BCD is not a problem here. Please enlighten me on this fellow cyclists.

this is the last place you want to be posting this man....its the single speed forum (no gears).

your lbs mechanic is a dummy...thousands of people are doing it.

Keep the 38 ring and pair it with an Endless cog. For most conditions a 38/22 setup will run nice. Ebay the cassettes but if your 32 tooth ring is narrow wide or single speed friendly you should keep it so you have other options as you collect cogs and rings.

Thanks for the heads up guys. It is worth the enlightenment. Now, I got my hopes high for the setup. I will approach another mechanic from another LBS to have it installed. I will keep my extra one for more options. BTW, sorry for posting in the wrong forum but nevertheless, you both were a big help.
