I have a carbon frame 29er and to get a dropper post I needed to use a delrin shim to go from the 34.9 seat tube to 30.9 to use the LEV post.I have a quick release on the post collar.I rode today without any lube or grease and the post was dropping down. It just dropped gradually over the ride. I have heard I could use a carbon paste but that would be between the shim and the seat post tube. Would I also use the carbon paste on the shim and the dropper post tube and would that help with the slipping. Hope I explained properly.
The shim has a lip on it. I bought some carbon paste last night and put it on all the surfaces. I could barely get the seat post to insert after this,so I have a feeling the paste will make the difference and stop the slippage. Will check after next ride.
Carbon paste should do it. If not, I have had very good luck with the Thomson seat collar. No quick release, but it manages to grip better than anything else I've tried with less torque on the bolt.
