I've seen the listed weights show a 2.2 Trail King a little heavier than the 2.35 Evo Pacestar Nobby Nic. In my experience with a 26" Trail King (protection version, black chili compound) the grip is better with the Trail King. Any experience/thoughts on the comparative rolling resistance/overall speed of the two in the 27.5 size?
No experience with a 27.5 Trail King, but I did get ride time on the 2.35 Nobby Nic (can't remember which version) on a fresh demo bike. Nothing really stood out about it, seemed pretty average except for the fact that there was visible wear on the tire after 25-30km of riding. I was riding the bike like I stole it, but that much wear in one ride is pretty concerning.
In 26", I've ridden both the TK and NN, preference by far is for the Trail King. More grip, more forgiving, more fun.
Looks like you've decided, but just to chime in I've run a Trail King 2.2 Protection 29er in the back for a while now and it's really good, particularly for climbing grip. My only complain is that the center knobs are starting to wear down a bit more than I'd like. I think the Specialized tires I ran previously had slightly better durability on Colorado rocks, roots, hardpack and, well, not so hardpack.
Trail King for sure. The NN is a great tire for the front, but they wear super-fast as a rear tire (from my experience). I like both brands, but def give the nod to Continental on this one.
Conti sizing is weird which means that TK 2.2 is about the same size as NN 2.35.
TK 2.4 is far wider and taller than the NN 2.35, probably one of the largest tires available.
