Anyone here planning on racing this series (or at least some of the events)?
Figure maybe those that have ridden it in the past and/or are familiar with the venues could pass along tire/setup advice, what to expect of the courses, etc...
I for one don't see being able to pre-ride any of them, so any help would be great.
I was at the Hop Brook race last year, actually didnt race, but checked out all the course and spectated most races. I think a full knobby would be in order here unless it really dries out by the 13th. I rode it between/after races, totally nice worked in! It is pretty technical, lots of climbing, lots of loose dirt/rocks. There is not that much road or grass sections. I would think a more firm set-up of suspension would be best, lots rode hardtails there. A person with a well set up bike, in my opinion almost DH type tires, could pass the less experienced or those that arent back fully in shape yet on the many DH tech sections, and rock gardens. basically classic upndown hills N.E. style riding.
Thanks for confirming my suspicion on the knobby, Calvinator. The bike I just picked up has a fast-rolling, "lightly-knobbed" tread pattern. I was on the fence about picking up another set for wetter conditions, and you just made the decision for me. Seems like the first few races in April would tend to be a little wet. I'd definitely give up a little rolling resistance in trade for a much higher confidence level going down a slick, technical hill. Not to mention being able to climb the same.
I'm just getting back to riding after a 15yr hiatus and never raced, so it should be interesting.
Thanks again for your feedback
rode the track yesterday, tried to reply with my phone, but not too easy! The track was worked in, def wet, muddy spots to go through, lungbuster climbs, some rock gardens but short, some fast rocky DH the thicker tires are better for. Good Luck!
