The NRS is pretty much my dream bike, and i am happy to have it. Pretty much the same geometry as the Rainier, and all the components, so it has that feel that i am used to, but is more comfortable (squish ) and much better downhill.
I will agree that the wheelset is relatively poor. Front rim was "bend beyond repair" -LBS but it was infact straightened, and i still ride it. Have broken a spoke, overhauled both hubs (rear needed new cones and bearings), changed tires front and rear, and now the freehub is sounding/feeling like it is toast. On top of that, they are not light. Most of that stuff is normal maintenance though. I would like new wheels, but a decent set is very expensive, especially after the bill to get this baby. So i am gunna get the freehub taken care of and just deal with it.
They actually don't bother me much.
As for the componentry in general, i feel that it is very well suited to my level of riding. The stuff that falls around the deore/LX level performs very well. Great balance between cost and performance. To have full XT level stuff would be overkill for me.
Now, lets see that SL of yours all built up. Should be pretty nice. I will wait for it.

My pimped out Element T.O... I love this bike. Custom painted (by me) 2000 SID XC about to be replaced with custom painted Reba Race u-turn, brakes are now Juicy 7.

I like that - Magic Carpet. Nice way to put it.
I'm getting a....... NAH! I can't do THAT! Where's the suspense? The drama?
Don't worry, i'll blab all about it when I get it (like I wouldn't???). I hope my buddy in Buffalo can help me once more with shipping.
Just look for the "I have pneumonia after my first winter ride" thread.

Alright, here it is. '03 Giant NRS with the Noleen Mega Air, both from E-Bay. Only had one ride (this morning) and it's a great bike! I also threw in a newer pic of the K2 .... just because.

I never realized just how jacked up that k2 is untill seeing that picture. Its like a bicycle monster truck with a suspension lift kit. Are you going to put you cow bar on the new bike?

Yeah, the BB height on the K2 is over 14". "What logs???"
Cow bar - that was one of my "technical difficulties" yesterday. I originaly DID have the Mary bar on it, bit it didn't feel right. I don't know why and it's actually bugging me immensly! I can only suspect that this frame fits me better than the K2 and it's somehow changing .... okay, I don't know wtf is going on. It just didn't feel the same as on the K2.

Congrats on your new ride. It should be totally opposite of your K2. With the Cane Creek rear I expect it bobs like Paris Hilton on a woody!

If you mean the Cane Creek on the rear of the K2 then yes, Paris was on my woody! Gotta get a Swinger for that K2 next year.

Yes, of course I meant the K2. The Swinger will help it somewhat, but not as much as you would think. These older designs are obsolete, as much as we love some of our old bikes and hate to accept that. I put a Fox Float RP3 Pro Pedal on the back of an older Devinci URT and although it was much improved over the CC AD10 I had, it still will not come close in matching the performance of the newer designs like Horst LinK or MacStrut. From my own experience I would suggest a shock that has some pedal damping plus a lock out. The 2004 Fox Float RL with Pro Pedal would be a great choice for the K2. Watch ebay or Mtbreview classifieds over the winter and you could likely pick up a good one for a nice price.

^^^ I thought I saw that bike before. Last summer I rode with you on number of TBN rides.
This is my bike: 50+ pounds of STEEL! It's bloody unstoppable, and by that I mean those U-breaks there are only for show. This machine sports top-of-the-line Falcon Indexing System and other parts I cannibalized from bikes people throw away. After 8 years and 2 head-on collisions with cars it's still going strong.
Actually this is my bike. Regular 2005 Specialized Rockhopper. Need to swap few parts and I'll be ready when the warm weather comes.

Black or red was the options so I went with black
Just waiting on new hydro brake lines since my new fork has more travel now too as in the pic you can see its damn short.

Damn, there's been some nice bike's getting posted here lately!
Here's my latest acquisition. 2001 Mountain Cycles San Andreas. Not done, but very well "roughed-in". Gotta do more dialing in, but geez, BIG! I found it on Pink Bike, local guy, too. I saw it and HAD to have it. Ever since I saw the first one back in the early '90's I told myself "one day". "One day" was a few weeks ago. Had about an hour's worth of on- and off-road riding (no neighbours lawn's this time). I like it.
Hey, JM, remember this? You posted about a work buddy riding one in one day last year. THIS is what they look like when they're not painted Rasta!

Here's mine...
'97 Klein Attitude Comp....upgraded a few things....well, most things. Still lookin to pick up a fork, handlebars, crank and seat. I'm thinkin FoxF80RLT, or a SiD Race fork, Easton EA70 bars (read too many negative reviews on carbon handlebars), XTR or FSA crank and a Selle Italia seat... any suggestions???

One of the forks you meantioned would be better then what you have on there now.
I use an Easton monkey lite carbon bar on my bike and never had any issues with it yet plus the warrenty on them is great too. The wheelset I have has bad reviews here but they been great for me. with only 1 minor truing job done to them (I trued them myself)

Upgrades
Ya, the Judy XC's are a little outdated but they still work...so that'll probably be my last upgrade. As for the handlebars, I weigh about 195lbs, so I figured the Monkeylite SL's and XC's (which place a large emphasis on reduced weight) may not be strong enough for me. I've gone through one rear wheel but only becase some moron that worked for the city decided to put an industrial garbage can on it....ripped the spokes rught out of the hub... the whole wheel was a right off. Luckily the LBS had one waiting for me...exact same build

With the SL's you prob would feel some noticable flex but the XC's should be fine. Of course you can always go to the DH version and have no worries there.
I would consider the new fork route though. The fox would be stiffer and the sid more racey, maybe a lil flexier then the Judy. My cousin's judy works good but theres no comparison to my friends Fox fork. Marz marathon would be good too.

HAHAHAHAA!!! No, no offense taken dude. I'm 6'4" and alllllll leg (36" inseam ). My Filte seats are always "flyin' high".
Actually, it's a combo of the long legs and the NRS "only" being the 20" frame and not the 22". My San Andreas is a little more of a "relaxed" bike, so the seat isn't quite as sky-scraperish, just a "tall high-rise". It's been lowered a little bit since that pic .... although the rest of the bike has gotten taller. Like I tell people before I meet them for the first time - just look for the tall, skinny coat rack - that's me!
Prod - I was slouching and never got out of my car. How's that LS working out for ya, anyways?

Thanks! Yeah, it's a really nice bike. My first outside of shitty Walmart bikes. Learned my lesson last year when I bought one and it was totalled within the first 2 months.
I'm anxious to go out to the slimes (Built a nice dirt jumping area) and test it out on some of the jumps/drops. Hopefully I can get some pictures of the place for you guys sometime.

Very fair question. Believe me it was not an easy decision. I was able to save $300Can by buying the obviously less popular colour.
So...I chose to save 300$ and ride around with a freakishly ugly fork. At the end of the day we ride our bikes not dress them up pretty - it still hurts my eyes though. It might even glow in the dark at 24 hour races - that would cool.

What I will be bringing to the table
Klein Att Race with a bunch of add on parts, only the seat bolt is original. Twister Supersonics and ExiWolf Race tires are used instead of the ones posted. Cheers

At least we can agree it's fugly. Guess what, if it was a difference of $300, i would probably have done the same.

Not sure of her weight, but she is pretty light. Prob around 22 with the twisters and superlight tubes on. I could get her down more with a seatpost, stem and seat swap but I bent superlight post before. Cheers

I see, must be because I sit nearly straight up in the car. Got that from my parents.
And thanks again for the 'skin. Looks like it might need a circumcision tho:

Huge props to Andrew and Roger at Cycle Solutions for building up my dream bike. Climbs like a XC hardtail and descends like a DH sled.

My first bike!
Okay, just for fun, I'll post mine, too. It's my first bike. Built for me for my birthday - how nice is that. It's sort of temporary, since most of the parts are from here and there. Next year, when I'm better, I'll invest in something more that suits me better. But until then, what I've got is brilliant.

Giant XTC
Here is my new ride! 14 inch Giant XTC, RockShox Duke XC (just for now...I have a SID I'll be racing next summer), SRAM X.7, Race Face Ride XC 22/32/44T, Avid Single Digit 5, SRAM PG 950 11-34T, 9-speed, Shimano PD-M520.....yah....I think we're replacing my cassette with a PG970 and the Easton EA50 handlebar something lighter and more cutdown. And I'm definitely replacing the Hutchinson pythons for something with better grip!! But sweeeeet!! I love it. I named it, too, hahaha: Bretty. (After my doggie and best buddy - who died midlife last year from Leukemia). He was a fearless, do-it-my-way, Saint Bernard who fought till the end. Anyways, here it is:
