Members of the Sikh community will be exempt from wearing a bicycle helmet in Queensland under new laws to allow for religious beliefs.
Transport Minister Scott Emerson announced the change to the state's bike helmet laws to provide for religious exemptions on Tuesday morning.
"It's sensible to have religious exemptions," Mr Emerson told 612 ABC Brisbane.
"It's not for anyone out there to claim they're not wearing a helmet for religious beliefs.
"People can't wrap a towel around their head and go ride a bike and claim that that exempts them from wearing a helmet. They will be fined as they always have."
