It poured rain the second time I rode the track. I'd just done the headland loop when the rain started. The way back was a little slippery, but still good riding.
If you go all the way out to Whangamata Rd, the return from the carpark to Kawakawa Bay is a great run.
I found the Craters of the Moon area to be extremely under-rated. I really liked it and it's not far out of Taupo.
Thanks for the responses. The trail held up well in the rain. Did the entire trail and would certainly recommend it to anyone that loves smooth single track.
rode from kinloch up to the headland loop, round the headland loop and back down to kinloch ... not a bad day out, was sunny and very hot ... awesome views and worth the trip over from rotorua
some pretty cool info and pics here too ...
Thanks for that!
Heading back for a few weeks late February, want to ride Rotorua again, and will go over to Taupo for W2K.
Going to Queenstown too, usually climb for a couple of days but I think this trip will be more mountain biking for a change.
Cheers
Barry
