Just bought this tire yeaterday.. Fast rolling on the road. Stable grip on sand and loose soil condition. Fair enough to hold you in mud but weak in wet asphalt and wet rocks. One more thing, a little bit noisy in tarmac..
Put a Driver 29 on the rear two weeks ago. Needed to use a ratchet strap to seat the bead, but otherwise easy to setup tubeless with an air compressor. I have put 70 miles on it and have been impressed so far in dry conditions. The lateral grip is tenacious. It rolls fast on the leaves and hardpack. Clings to rocks and off camber, side slope trails very well. However, I have not ridden it in mud due to the unseasonably dry fall weather.
just pumped up some panaracer rampages to my Arch Ex rims and they pumped right up with a floor pump no problem. I know it isnt the driver but it should be similar bead. I plan on getting the driver for the rear soon.
Looks pretty good. If I wasn't already flush in tires not on my bikes right now, I would get a pair.
I see what the other poster means by 'noisy on tarmac'. It looks like a row of those knobs hit the ground all at just about the same time. That would make for a noisy tire.... but, probably also good for a rear 'paddle up the hill' kind of rear tire for singlespeeds.
I wonder what tire life would be like. I remember having a Dart/Smoke combo a bunch of years back that took forever to wear out. I have a Bontrager Jones ACX rear tire right now a bud traded me that was brand new. I think I have 3 15 mile rides on it, and the knobs are already looking pretty rounded off.
Heh... I was also noticing recently that all the tire 'dealz' had dried up. I was getting all sorts of decent tires for around $20-25 each. Seems like about $45 is the going rate for a folding tire of decent quality. Nice to see some lower rent good tires out there.
*edit*
Wow.... 560 grams! If that is close to correct, that is pretty dang light for a 29er tire.
Mine came in this morning, 10 minutes before I was going on a ride. Installed it on the front replacing my Maxxis IKON(never had much confidence i that tire), love tubes. No messing around with snot.
Fast rolling tire, can't really compare quite yet, was using a maxxis Ikon 2.2. Socal has been bone dry for the last 4 month.
Two days ago we had our first rain and riding conditions were perfect. No dust and semi dry packed dirt.
I will have to wait a few daysfor Socal to dry out before I can make a fair comparison. Initial impression is very good, especially for $25.
I am hoping for the 2.2 to become available, mine is a folding 2.0. Skinnier then my maxxis but not super skinny.
This might be the front tire I have been looking for.
Just finished my 3rd ride on them, great tire. I would pay $50 for them. For $25 they are a steal. ( non folding steel bead less then$15+5 shipping)
Started pushing the tire today, loose over hard. Tire settles in a very gentle controllable drift. It was easy to increase or stop. Very confidence inspiring.
Too early to tell about wear, I suspect this to be very good. My old fire XC pro's did very well in this department.
Imo we have a winner, looking forward to many more miles on this tire.

Are you running FS, HT and geared or SS? I was looking at these by am concerned by the 2.0 size. I am only 145# wet, and ride a steel SS with suspension up front, so I am wondering if I might just be okay with these. Thanks for the info you have already shared! BTW-I heard Ikon's work good out here in AZ, selling?
Call me crazy, but when I clicked on that link, I expected to see Panaracer tires. What I saw were Specialized tires, the Renegade and Fastrak LK, specifically. As Arsenio would say, "things that make you say, hmmmmm?"
I am on a FS element 950, I think the 2.0 will work fine in the front for you. It is not a high volume tire by any means but with a suspension fork it should be fine.
Thanks again for the tires! You weren't lying though... they are pretty skinny. I previously had the Specialized S-Works Fast Trak LK's and these look VERY similar, which is why I was interested in them. Got them mounted... too bad we have a solid 7 days+ of heavy rain... if it lets up, I'll take them out and report back.
FWIW, these are replacing some Kenda Small Block 8's that came on my bike that were 2.1's... these almost look like a beefy road bike tire by comparison, lol. They felt a tad lighter though, so there's that.
I'm always on the lookout for new tires to try but generally won't ride anything narrower than a 2.2" as I'm about 215lbs.
I clicked on the link posted above to look at these "new" tires and noted that the Soar is listed as 29X2.2 but the ETRO size is 622-50. 50mm. in fact is only 1.97". On the same page Panaracer list their Driver 29 Pro as 29X2.2 and the ETRO size as 622-55. It would appear that Panaracer are a bit flexible with claimed tire sizes.
According to FullMonte's measurements this tires is actually a hair wider than the Maxxis Ignitor which makes me even more interested. I think I may have to pick up a pair!
I'm thinking about a 26x2.1 folding version of this tire to put on my 26er hard-tail. I'll be replacing a seriously worn Small Block 8 and will be setting it up tubeless on 14 year old Mavic 317 rims. The bike is only used for riding with my kids, taking the dog for a run and light trail use these days.
I want to get more trail time out of the bike though. The terrain is mostly dry, loose over hard pack with rocks. So is this still a relevant tire or are there better alternatives?
Also what's the real world weight of a 26x2.1?
Thx.
