Soquel Demo NEW braille route, saw pit pics
Saturday, Feb 5 was a grand day in Soquel demo forest. Conditions were perfect and the company was good. A few mtbrs came out to play and everyone else who was out there had a huge smile on their face.
Soquel Demo is one of the hardest places to photograph. First, it's too much fun riding there and stopping for photos takes a lot of effort. Second, it's so dang dark in the woods that most cameras just have a hard time with the action shots. That being said, here's some pics using a Canon G6 digicam.
John aka JRM pondering what bike or body part is going to give out today.
Derek Lindsey with his poseur Moots and Subaru. David Sloan aka DAS is back from the dead. He taught us all how to singlespeed 2 years ago then disappeared to Seattle.
George aka Jorge still dazed from a mild hockey concussion.
Pierre worried his brand new fork might not step up to the challenge.
The group waiting on top of the fire road for Kyle's imaginary friends.
Melt doing big new log stunt on ridge trail
Jorge doing the old log pile on ridge trail
DAS remembers how it's done.
Meeting in the conference room.
Jorge pinning the rocks in saw pit
DAS showing no fear!
Derek in da house.
The other Derek taking the tree line.
Melt giving life to the old bike.

In Soquel, if you want to play for a long time, you have to pay on this climb called sulphur springs. Some call it suffer springs. Here's Kyle on the crusher wall at the end of the climb.
Look at Kyle's throbbing quads!!! Not bad for a 45 year old.
Melt climbing with no seatpost
JRM throws his bike in disgust
We meet up with an old friend of mine, Lowell (on the right). Here he is posing with his gangsta homies.
Pierre descending right after sulphur springs
One of Kyle's imaginary friends shows how it's done.
Kyle with his 'O' face.
Pierre on the great new section of braile. 5 new log drops/piles go through a redwood grove.
Melt on a log
Derek showing off some roadie skills
JRM having an intimate moment with his saddle.
Pierre jumping the big log with style. Apologies for the photographer's lack of style.
Melt playing the harmonica
JRM on his happy moment of the day.
I have a couple of beers so my friend drives me home. My two kids are playing in the front yard happy as can be. Today is a good day.

Ahh that's where you be at. What torture to have good weather and a great new toy but no time to ride yet.
Have you met TimL yet? Tell him to come out of his hole and ride!

Great Pics!
I get just about every MTB magazine and was reading a couple while laying off this weekend. I like the cool professional photos of all the biking in great places with great views, and the jumps that are more professional stuntmen than MTB. But they sometimes get so way out of normal experience (who does 20' drops?) I can't relate anymore.
But then I saw these Demo pictures of the friendly mtbr's in places I know well and having a lot of fun. It made my heart race again and got a grin on my face like I was doing this familiar ride again myself. These photos, no matter what quality, beat any professional glossy magazine photo 10x over. These are real.
BADLY wished I could have gone. This ride is local for me and would have been a good ride that I could have kept up with you guys on at least one of the loops.
I eagerly wait for the remainder of pictures from Jorgemonkey, Melt, and any others. (Hey, anybody got a topo? )

I was there this morning!
Great pix, francois. Brought back some memoies of the morning. I went there for the first time. Met up with 5 friends and had a great time. Rode Saw Pit and only one loop. Next time I will ride more. We had a lot of stops today. Would not mind meeting up with you all next time. Good night.. waiting for the laundry to finish... What a fun place to ride!!!!!
Thanks for the help on the directions.

I'd put mine up, but I left then at home! So I they;ll have to wait for another day. They're not as good as Francois pics though. But we had an awsome ride, I enjoyed is as much as I enjoy the other MTBR rides I've been on.

I rode Skeggs Sunday afternoon and am feeling the passion again. I'll be at Soquel next time (next weekend?). I can't miss out on it now.
BTW - Blue Blossom is flowing good. The dusty end section is nice, packed down and tacky now. But the first section needs some trail work. I've got to remember to bring a mini-shovel ...

Demo never fails...
to kick my arse! But I always seem to beg for more. A great ride with cool people as always. It was good to see some old faces and meet some new ones. And be schooled by 15-year old Pierre. Keep riding, dude! I missed Sawpit yesterday due to my imaginary friends but riding Braille twice was a blast! The second time down I felt the flow so much better! It was one of those zen moments. We're so lucky to have days like that in the middle of WINTER! California dreamin'. Can't wait until next time....

I don't see how I'm a poseur, if I quit riding my SS (we all know that's a fad) and start riding my Moots (because we all know its the bike not the rider), then left after only one lap.
Plus that crappy Subaru stayed out in front of your bling-bling VW. Is that an oxymoron?
Anybody planning on hitting Demo or Coe this weekend?

These pics are over a year old, FYI.
Pierre rides a Trek frame converted to singlespeed.

Sorry to keep reviving this old thread, but you can tell it's vintage 2005 since you don't see any Santa Cruz Nomads in the photos
Kyle's still rocking the Weyless!
