Interesting.

Looking at the area on Google Maps, the highest hills around that area in France are only 450m-ish ASL (with the finish line being in the town down by the ocean).

Klingsporn (Mt Buller) would have a greater elevation change than that, but it's a narrow, skittish trail that doesn't really allow for passing of any variety, which I guess is why they don't run races down it. I hear the Delatite trail on the other side is a bit more open - perhaps an Enduro DH event is in that area's future? I hope so - I like the idea of any race downhill oriented, but without the crazy WC DH elements (massive jumps/drops etc).

It seems all you need as little as 500m elev change, and a trail that takes 15+ minutes to get down, including a little pedalling, but no so much that those pesky XC guys can beat you on their 2kg hardtails and make you look even minutely less awesome than you are on your tough 6in dually.

My friends and I plan to attempt the Alpe D'Huez Megavalanche before we're 40 years old. Now THAT would be an Enduro DH worth tackling.

Nice ... though his time has passed, old Nico Vouilloz has plenty of style.

I've been watching some of the Urge Cabo Verde vids. Seems to be more of an invitational event - kinda like the All Mountain version of the Red Bull Rampage, only there's no real winners of the events (which seem to be 5 or 6 runs over a week) as it's mostly a charity event headed by Mondraker rider Fabien Barel, about getting NGO funding to the schools & early learning programs on the islands.

Regardless, if the event gains momentum the area could end up becoming a known MTB destination. Looks like some awesome runs in there.

Man, there are soooooo many amazing tracks in the world, and plenty in our part of the world I am sure. Just wish I knew where they all were....

I think I will definately check out Bike Buller next year. Was still injured during this years one. I hope the Super D is close to some of these videos. Or at least along the same lines as them.
