The Sea Otter Classic: Retro Gathering 2004

The Vintage, Retro, Classic forum has been met with resounding enthusiasm, a wealth of great photos, and invaluable information. So, as the first big race of the season is fast approaching, I’m thinking this is a perfect opportunity for a gathering of vintage.

That being said, think of this as the official: Sea Otter Retro Gathering 2004.

Where: The MTBR.com booth at the Sea Otter Classic, Monterey, Ca.
When: Saturday, April 17th, 2004, 12:00 Noon
What: Any and all Vintage Mountain Bike owners.
Who: Us vintage freaks (of course everyone is welcome to hang out!)
Why: Do you really need to ask?

This gathering is very impromptu (I certainly don’t have anything planned!), but I think it’s a great opportunity for those of us that are there to get together and put faces to the names and show off our classics. It’ll turn plenty of heads to see a bunch of fine vintage in one place!

Please share your thoughts and give a shout if you think you can make it out!

That sounds pretty dang fun. And another excuse to bring multiple bikes.

Okay, I'm 100% in!

ER,

After much waffling I've decided to commit to being there for the ride. I just realized that the training class that that I was going to take completely interfers with my weekly Tuesday night ride, and I can't have that.

I'll be there all day Saturday and then ride "sweep" in the sport XC race on Sunday.

Sweeeet! I will be great to have you there...I was bummed that you might not have been able to make it.
Now you need to figure out what bike to take...
I think I'm going to bring both the Yeti and the Sling to have more vintage on hand.

We both did a great job running 'sweep' at the cccx...I think SO won't be a problem!

Cool. See y'all there - noon at MTBR booth on Saturday still good? I'll be on my Ibis. I'm also going to race ss on Sunday so don't beat me up too bad.

Yep! Still on.
Beat you up!? No way...I thought we were all just going to hang out and talk!
But now that you mention it, perhaps a victory lap around 'vendor row' and some light trail time would be in order.

I race Sunday too, but I'm easy.

A ride for sure! No sense bringing cool bikes if they aren't going to get ridden. I don't have no trailer queens! Here's the weather forecast: http://www.weather.com/weather/exten...promo=forecast Looking good.

Funny you should mention the weather. I've been checking the weather non-stop for the last three days and the forecast keeps changing. It called for rain on Sunday not too long ago.
A light rain on Thurs/Friday will do wonders to firm up the course, but if rains Sat/Sunday, I'll be an unhappy camper.

As for garage queen bikes...I ain't got none of them either....although I've only ridden the Slingshot twice since it's been built. I'll get it dirty but I've been trying to keep it as clean as I can for SO. I'm lame that way.

Last call

Tomorow is the day!!! Who's going to be there?

I'm bringing an early-80s Ritchey and a '93 XO-1 for tomorrow's vintage cruise. Sunday I'll bust out my "modern" '98 Yeti for the race.

Hope to see you there.

I had a feeling you were gonna race that....you were making no mention of the Blur.
I'm bringing the bikes pictured above...they're all I've got!

Weather report is upgraded to no rain, Woo Hoo!

My Blur is too heavy these days, and I'm too lazy to lighten it up for a single race. The SO course works well enough with a hardtail, so the Yeti gets the nod.
