IMBA coming to New Hogan Lake! (Calaveras County)

Hey, this might be pretty cool. This is a trail I helped start many years ago. My enthusiasm has waned the last several years, but this may be the kick in the pants this area needs to become a destination thought of more often, especially in winter. Here's a (old) link from my site: http://www.scaab.bikeaddict.com/about.html ...sorry about the popups, but it's a free site.

Here's MTBR's trail reviews: http://content.mtbr.com/pscTrails/Un...3_4518crx.aspx

Please mark yer colanders.

The International Mountain Bicycling Association is coming to Valley
Springs, California, November 11 - 14, and you're invited to join in the
special events. Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew leaders, Nat and Rachael Lopes,
will partner with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a weekend of talking
trails at New Hogan Lake.

This visit features an IMBA Trailbuilding School and trailwork. All events
are FREE! This is your opportunity to rub shoulders with the IMBA crew
while learning all about trailbuilding. Check out all the details below and
come join in the fun.

Please help us get the word out and forward this invitation to other area mountain bikers,
land managers, and trail users!

If these events are too far away for you to attend, we understand. We sent
you this email not only to invite you but also to let you know about the
important work IMBA is doing in your area.

Valley Springs, California
New Hogan Lake

November 11 - 14

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 13
9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. IMBA Trailbuilding School

New Hogan Lake Park Headquarters
Valley Springs, CA

Get your hands dirty and learn how to build sustainable and fun singletrack.
The school includes three hours of classroom instruction followed by
hands-on time in the field learning trailbuilding techniques. Topics include
designing a contour trail, controlling water flow, building effective trail
structures, and routine trail maintenance.

The fieldwork will be hands-on trailbuilding, so come prepared. You'll
probably be most comfortable in long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Wear
sturdy shoes and bring water, snacks, work gloves, sunscreen, and a hat. If
you have any trailbuilding tools--pulaskis, McLeods, rakes, picks, hoes,
shovels--please bring them, too.

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Classroom Session

12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Lunch - Bring your own!

1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Fieldwork

To register or for more information, please contact Adam Durando, Park
Ranger, via phone (209-772-1343) or email (adam.durando@usace.army.mil).

If you want to ride Hogan to check it out, PM me. I've heard about new trails up there & I'll be checking it out in the near future.

Edick: Hey, would someone please pick me up a pair of crusty, 20-year-old crocheted fingerless gloves at the VeloSwap? I know they'll be hard to find, but keep an eye peeled, wouldja?

Holy crap I almost responded "I'm down for trail work" then I saw the date.

I ridden there a couple times in the last few weeks. The trails are fun and technical in a few areas. The brush is making the trails narrow in lots of the new stuff up on the ridge.

Ogre rides there every Wednesday night.

Feel free to bring small trailwork tools (hand pruners, folding saws, small loppers) that fit easily in your hydropak and help trim back the brush. Otherwise just show up and ride. All levels are welcome. We try to meet at the Coyote Point Trailhead at 5:45 pm every Wednesday.
