What happened to your account?

The video is from ebaumsworld. Perhaps this one is more informative and funny:

I am thinking of being highly obnoxious and posting here every time I see a flagrant error in a post. That way I don't have to derail other threads by issuing annoying grammar tickets, but I can get the personal satisfaction of mocking lazy posters.

something is wrong with this thought. it's incomplete.
the reader is told that you RETIRED your account because of the name. RETIRED the name because of it's association with your license plate.
we are then (this is the big leap) forced to make a conclusion, we assume that you RETIRED the plate when you RETIRED the car...or vice-versa...

that car, the car in question, would be the car with the 1mystk license plate.
i'd be happy with this, EXCEPT, you used the present tense (is) to describe the plate.

let's talk about tense. Past tense in particular.

of course you may not be incorrect in your tense.
maybe the 1mystk (still) is your license plate and the car (still) is your car...of course that makes your decision to RETIRE your account name based on it's association with an active license plate on an active car...just odd.

let's talk about redundancy.

redundancy, the construction of a phrase, sentence, thought, idea concept, proposal, statement or declaration that presents, proposes or offers some idea, thought or concept using more information, explanation or clarification than is required, necessary or called-for in order for the audience (listener, reader) to be able understand, comprehend or grasp the idea, thought or concept that was being conveyed, explained or discussed in the first place.

no. you may not leave yet...
perhaps you can explain to the class what this Misfit diSSent (AI) 29er is...do I need to get a lawyer?
Picture 1.png

yes i use no caps.
yes i have no bananas.
it makes the strategic use of ALL caps more effective and lends to creating inflection...inflection...wrong place, wrong thyme.

I RETIRED the plate as I no longer drive the vehicular that was associated with SAID plate... you can't get rid of me that easily LORD VADAR...

and whut duz it matter 2 u that I RETIRED my original account?

with the introduction to the NEW ... that same NEW that you have had to find NEW name for... I must distinguish not extinguish between the AL (shyte I forgot to CAP the "L" in AL in my avatar thingy - how do I fixie that?? ) and the FE and the FBI if I must...

futhurmore, I LIKE my bike, no correction, I LOVE my bike, so I chose to advertise it's existence to myself and those that care...

do you need a lawyer? no... why would you need a lawyer if I am telling the peeples that I ride a misfit... sorry I spelled the Al with a small cap in the "L" - if you tell me how to fix it I shall ... I will use no more caps, but I would like a banana in my cereal please...

excellent.
please read the discussion (linked to previously) concerning past tense.

"1mystk WAS my (could be THE) (add personalized) license plate number (number? really?) on one of my cars (der, see redundancy, you mean it wasn't YOUR plate on someone else's car?) and made the decision to retire anything associated with it."

AI is illustrator, if adobe thinks they can go after the diSSent brand they are mistaken...that kind of lawyer.

a small cap in the L. a small cap.
you DID NOT use a capital L or a small l for that matter. You used a capital I as in "I cannot cut and past from a website".

It may be difficult for some to differentiate between flagrant errors and deliberate lampoonery. Write me up anyway I enjoy the spankings.

Nah - it's easy. There are three basic categories:
1. The ignorant/foolish/lazy (most annoying)
2. The random typos (whatever - only worth lambasting in a thread devoted to grammar/spelling)
3. The deliberate language play (see smiley's post).
Especially once someone's been posting for a while, it's glaringly obvious. And I wouldn't mock a newbie. Much.

On that note, I believe we established that Oggie's the one who is into the spankings. I'll delegate that duty to him. If you're into that...

thank you ma'am...

However, and I know that this news flash will brake few hearts now, including Phat's, I do prefer opposite gender. Not that there is anything wrong any other way.

So unless his name is Brad Pitt, who I still haven't eXstablished whether he is he or she, I will have to pass...

Please keep me in mind when a potential spankee meets these standards...

With regards,

Typos are my downfall. I should be more careful. This thread invites deliberate language play - or so I thought.

Aw, you didn't take that grammar ticket seriously, did you?

I must admit, typos are my downfall too. I love Firefox - it highlights them for me. Now I have far fewer.

Edit: Um, maybe I wasn't fully clear. I only plan to mock category 1. Extensively.

I forgot category 4: Trying to write correctly, but making errors due to ESL, learning disability reasons.

This can be more difficult to distinguish from the merely lazy. I do have to say it bugs me when people say, "I can't spell". Well, you CAN. It's more accurate to say "I have difficulty spelling complex words correctly". Or "I have difficulty with homonyms" or "I often get double-letters wrong." Consider my role here educational.

And Enduramil, Mysty's welcome to spank and be spanked. As is Oggie. I'd prefer if they got a room...

anarawd "Typos are my downfall. I should be more careful. "

"There's" instead of, "there are". e.g. "Hey, there's two arseholes on that camel!"

Um you’re new here so I thought I would help with the camel’s things. That camel does not have two arseholes on it … it’s a female camel …. See that one over there with one arsehole on it … that’s a male camel.

Happy riding.

That was not how it was phrased ... so maybe you misinterpreted. I am trying to educate the city folk here.

Partygurl "And watch the racial slurs, will ya?"

Um you just made it one ... shame on U.

I wonder if the spelling thing is laziness caused by how the human brain functions. I mean, the human brain is a energy cheapskate. It's always trying to do stuff using less energy.

Sure Mysty and whoever can get spanked. At least have the courtesy to arrange it so we can make money of the cable and internet feed.

thoughts on sussy on the 29

I decided I wanted to know what the down-low, hip-to-the-fly on suspension this past year in the part of the season that I actually did ride!

my Misfit is nice and light. when I put the sussy fork on it - I hummed and hah'd and hah hah'd about it... when I picked up the steed from the Empire headquarters, I had a heavier bike to lift onto the roof of my car. ok - ok, like what 3 lbs? 2lbs? still...

The ride seemed better at first. maybe the fun and excitement of having something NEW on the bike was clouding my thoughts... It was a WIN when I went down the bumpy of bumpy trails... but I guess I was so used to the rigid it didn't really matter.

I did however find climbing to be a pain in the arse. Seems like it felt like the front end of my bike was lifted up higher and I needed to work more to get up the damn hills. I barely used to make climbs before, now it was double impossible.

So... conclusion? The sussy fork will be replaced or left on, or retired to something else that the Empire can tempt me to replace it with. I say merry christmas to me if I can replace it with something cooler, and lighter and hipper...

For the most part, I conclude that I will be riding my rigid SS next year. I need the fun factor back , I need the lighter bike back. And let's face it, I was only switching my 1 x 9 gears minimally at best.

GO ahead! Infractions of spelling or grammar are present... shameful I know... hate me if you will...

I was an old-school rigid rider for years. Before it was hip. But last year, I got my first proper suspension fork, since I wanted the squish for Crank the Shield. Although it's a bit of a pain to haul up hills, it did make me brave enough to try stuff that had always intimidated me. Believe it or not (!) I was uncomfortable going over logs until a couple of years ago. Getting used to getting over obstacles with squish has gotten me over that hump, so to speak. Now that I've completed the BC Bike Race and my second CTS, I'm going back to rigid. I'm really looking forward to having a nimble front end again.

Maybe you should just try an easier gear ratio for a while? Cogs are much cheaper than carbon forks. The more fun you have, the more you'll ride and the better you'll get.

my Misfit is nice and light. when I put the sussy fork on it - I hummed and hah'd and hah hah'd about it... when I picked up the steed from the Empire headquarters, I had a heavier bike to lift onto the roof of my car. ok - ok, like what 3 lbs? 2lbs?

Hate? Sorry fresh out today, should have fresh stock in tomorrow.

Suspension to heavy to climb with? Hmm, sounds like a creative excuse for less training. The coach prescibes more riding up grades with a 30lb pack.

no excuse... reality is...

that I prefer the misfit in it's natural state - no suspension - no gears...

working hard to climb on the SS was workout enough!

maybe next year I will try riding with the 30 lb pack

I'm not sure how the first part applies, but the last paragraph is remarkably relevant!

On a slightly related topic, I occasionally find it surprising that "retard" remains such a common insult (again - see pinkbike!). You never know how language will evolve. A few years ago, a friend came from England and was SHOCKED to hear the word "gypped" bandied about so freely. I had the same reaction when I heard someone else say "That guy really jewed me." WHAT? But "retarded" doesn't seem to elicit the same response.

I think we should all make a pact and choose a day (or two?) on which we all agree to change our user names, avatars, and siggies to something random and not readily indentfiable. Of course rkj's posts would be obvious because he's the Eastern forum's resident MTBR post whore and his post count sticks out like a sore thumb. For everyone else though, it may be interesting to see what comes out of a couple of days of threads of not know who the poster is without some "cheating" by looking back through posting histories. It could also be humourous seeing what it all looks like when everyone switches back to their usual user names.

Tried going rigid on The Concubine. Sadly 10 years of alpine ski racing equals bad joints.

Though if the plan for the winter upgrades goes through the Mistress will be race ready.

circlip racers will still be FAST and MTBers will still care about the singletrack.

Let's crank the Van Whalen instead.

Oh, Phat, this was such a NICE thread! We even avoided the divisive political discussion (it was a close thing though - whew!). No one even mentioned racing or trail maintenance. Or is this another sophisticated joke on yourself that I'm missing?

If it is - kudos! It does illustrate that most would probably be pretty recognisable even without known usernames, avatars or signatures. Circlip would generally mock all, Mysty would offer spankings and excuses all around, Oggie would refuse to change his username, Mr. Monster would post about strange Japanese cycling customs and strange Canadian cycling customs (aka cyclocross), I'd b*tch about improper homonym use and take subtle jokes seriously, nogears would generally mock all (uh oh - that's two), singlesprocket would post some pictures of mushrooms with a very obscure reference to cycling, rkj and jmooote would give lengthy race reports (though rkj would also post pics from local Hamilton rides)... Shall I continue?

That would require one to first clarify as to what the person is using in context of. Before of course snapping and launching into a speckled rage on the subject.

I think he already cleverly illustrated the point.

Great, I now have a male stalker. Time to invest in a TASER, though I think you'd enjoy it.

But seriously, Being from BC know that stunts can and will hurt you. On the berm screwed up and took a digger. Must have nailed the frame with my right knee. The plastic hard cap was cracked. Better a $45 leg armour then thousands in medical bills.

would you rather...

a female stalker? Oggie is kinda cute... you might enjoy it?

I always wondered what it would be like to be one than to be stalked... I've had my fair share thanks...

I contemplated on wearing the shin guards, only cause when I started riding I was on flats and my shins were shreaded!
