Kootenay Trip 09 - Photo Heavy -

I spent a few weeks up in the Kootenays this summer with the Family this year and the last week I sent the kids and GF back to the island....and met up with CraigH and hit up some amazing trails....here are the photo's from my end.

We met up in Nakusp and headed straight up to Revelstoke....first day was Keystone Basin:

Was a GREAT ride....I am a n00b to riding alpine singletrack...don't have much of this on the island and I LOVED it...this is one of the greatest rides in BC from what others have said, and I agree....WOW....

For day two we decided to stay in Revelsoke and ride Sale Mountain/Martha Creek. This one did not work out as intended as my little car would not have made it up the road....so we drove to the top in CraigH's awesome van and then rode half of the trail...and rode back up the road to the top...this is not recommended....not fun...lol. We were the 2nd group of riders to ride the new re-route and it was great...a fun trail, I would recommend this one to people heading up there too....enough with words...onto the pics....(not many as this is mainly a faster downhill trail...)

Parking above 2000m....NICE....

Day 3-4

Day three we drove down to New Denver and hit up some of the local trails...now...not many photo's this day, but the trails were fun...not quite what I was expecting but still fun. OK....so no real photo's of the trails...just the Galena trail on the way back to town...a great fast rail grade trail....

The view from our campground...

Then we hit the Wakefield trail....TONS of downhill...this one is a brake burner....

The end of this ride is at the lake in the background...in a town called Silverton....right behind those trees on the right hand side....

I don't know if I would do two days here again...unless there are other trails...the Wakefield trail is a must do...but other than that the pickens are rather slim IMO.

Day 5-6

From New Denver we headed down to Rossland...this is what I have been waiting for...the first day we rode lower Oasis (upper had been closed due to logging...and the lower may be close soon too). Really...didnt get many photo's of Oasis....its FAST wide open ripping....so fun, but not too much tech on this trail...wish the upper was open....hear great things about it...anyway...umm..here is the meager photo's...

after that we headed back to the campsite for lunch...then headed out and rode the top of Whisky and crossed over to ride Crown Point...THAT trail is fun....I have one photo of this trail...and its a blur...lol...so much flow on one trail...my god...good times.

Day 6....the big one...Seven Summits. This trail has been on my TO RIDE list for a few years now...after losing 30 pounds last winter I thought I may have a chance of finishing it this year...lol. I was a little nervous but CraigH and I hit the trailhead WELL prepared (Very heavy packs!)...and I was stoked....

That was an amazing ride....I can see why it is listed as an IMBA Epic ride...its got everything...and SO WELL BUILT....I gotta give the Rossland builders a TON of props for the well built, well signed FUN trail network, never seen anything like it...amazing. Not only that but Rossland is a great little town too.

So thats it....6 days of riding and I was left wanting more....I wanted to stay in Rossland and explore but I had to be at work on Monday....there are so many places to ride in BC...this does not even scrape the surface of how amazing this province is....I can't wait to get out and explore the Kootenays some more.

Looks like great fun...

That was the Monashees not the Kootenays...even though it was Kootenay Lake and Kootenay River...

Good news is you still have the Selkirks and the Kootenays left to ride.

Kotenay is the region.

The Monashees, Selkirks, Purcells, Kokanees, etc are mountain ranges within the Kootenay region.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kootenays

There's a bit of confusion, as there's some geographers that refer to parts of the Canadian Rockies as the Kootenay Ranges, but for the most part no-one uses that designation.
