National Champs at SolVista Bike Park

Hey everybody, I wanted to start a common thread here for info on the national championships. I'll try and check back regularly to answer questions, but know this -

-SolVista Bike Park is the host venue for the race.

-Bigfoot Productions (think Mountain States Cup) is the promoter.

-Go to www.solvistanationals.com for questions about the race.

-Go to www.bikesolvista.com for general bike park info.

-Twitter links here - http://twitter.com/bikesolvista and http://twitter.com/granbyranch

We'll keep the twitter sites and bikesolvista site updated with pics and info on tracks as we get them online and ready to ride. The USAC folks are here today for a site visit, so stuff should be getting finalized pronto. Please forward/copy this link for the xc peeps too!

For those of you making travel plans, we have decided to open the bike park on Tuesday and Wednesday (for four hours in the afternoon each day) so everyone can come early and have some fun before practice officially begins. Stay tuned to www.bikesolvista.com for exact hours, but think noon-to-four-ish.

Thanks and we look forward to seeing you all in a month.

heya,

i have a call into bigfoot thats several days unanswered so this is a welcome thread. questions:

is there a place for us out of towners to set up a semi perminant pit area? i have a ez-up that id like to place and leave standing for the duration of the weekend if possible. the parkin lot will be just dandy if theres not a place trackside for it and my car.

will the trails be open for non racers other than tues and wed? i have a pal who will bring his bike along if so. is there a full face helmet rule for him?

are dogs welcome? might bring the kids if theres room in the car and you say its cool. theyre both faster than me but gettin them to fit in my armor has been a chore and where to ya pin the race number anyway?

thanx!

- For races we can camp up on an area overlooking the base. It is a large area that is quiet late and fun early.
- not sure about what tracks will be open to non-racers as it would depend on whether the race track cuts across the other trails.
- i often bring my dogs and they chill (tied up) by the car or tent during the day. (obviously no dogs on the mountain unleashed.

Keep track of this thread and the Ridemonkey.com one located at http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=219622

Looks like regular trails WILL be open as long as they are not being used for competition or practice.

good news on the dogs. they love road trips.

not so interested in campin as we have a cabin 5 min away in tabernash thanx to a pal of mine, more interested in a small pit area at the resort. a place to work on the machine, have a cool bev between runs and hang out with friends.

I tried to read the qualifying page but didn't really understand it.

All categories for DH must qualify?

All catagories except pro must qualify at a approved event prior to the championships.

there may be big jumps, but no major, un-rollable jump will be mandatory. go-arounds will exist.

I just updated www.SolVistaNationals.com with pics of the 4X track being built, a FAQ page, and some additional info about RV parking on the Where To Stay page. Cheggitout!

Just a little teaser for everyone, this is going to be part of the pro DH track that is yet to be finished. We are getting all the courses ready, and we hope we make it, one and a half weeks to go... The photos are from the front of three jumps, and from the middle set looking up.

Those doubles are SOOOO ridiculous. You gotta see them in person to really appreciate them. Holy crap. I'm glad I'm not a pro.

AM course info as reported on RM:

"So here's some more info from the race director as of Monday, July 13. 'The amateur DH course will be Drifter to Buck Nasty to Cougar. It has several jumps ranging from 15 to 30 feet.' "

It did not look like it but close. I could be wrong on that but I can tell you we (5 of us riding) did not see anyone hitting them all day.

The Canadian feet was a friendly slam at our neighbors to the north. As well as a rip on people who say "That was 50 feet!" and it reality it was 15.

The 3rd big jump on the pro course is 47 feet. I think the other two are a little smaller successively. So I think something like 35-40-50 in size is what they were aiming for. They got 47 on the big one.

The am course has a 20 footer and a 10 footer (give or take a few feet-I don't know the exact values on those). All of them have go-arounds. An option for a 40 footer is there too, it looks deceiving because its low profile; but don't take it lightly, the thing is 40 feet and you will be hitting it at 35 mph to clear it.

The 20 footer on the AM course was nice I did see a few peeps hitting that. I looked at it for our 3rd run and went for it on our last run it was sweet!

I did see one guy clear that one about mid day I guess. Dude was flying and just had enough to nail it (so yes you need speed for sure).

We are going to be pretty stoked on everyone watching. Hopefully we get a bunch of drunks cheering on the courses during races. How's that going to happen? We've got a 4X4 ranger that we are pulling a beer cart with, so there will be beer going up and down 4X, downhill and the steep section of the XC course.

There apparently will be beer gardens. One placed on the mountain near the monster doubles on the pro course would be a good call...*cough* *hint* *hint*
