END.

Slickrock was just part of an amazing mid-winter week here in da Mohab. I also rode Sovereign Singletrack, Klondike Bluffs / Baby Steps, and Amasa Back, before finally exhausting myself on the epic Gemini Bridges to Gold Bar to Blue Dot to Poison Spider (with a little hike halfway down Portal just to see what that's really like). Helluva day, that one. Did not see another soul.

Next up: Arizona. But first, a nap!

Nice pics. I'm jealous and wish I was in Moab.

One question; I dont understand why the Slickrock trail does not seem all that popular with the "real" mtn. bike crowd. I have never ridden it, but I have driven by it many times and off roaded the Hells Revenge trail which is the same area. Is Slickrock to "touristy", easy, have to pay to get into the recreation area? What?

I love Moab but it doesnt seem like such a hot mtn. bike destination anymore. Is it just me... what gives?

Heh, that reminds me... I do need to clean my lens. Now, I just gotta figure out how to pry that sucker open... hmmm.... Glad you liked #32, at least.

Actually, I've been using Photoshop since it first hit PCs in the early 90s, but usually in much more mundane and subtle ways. This seemed like the perfect excuse to finally let loose and have a little fun with all those wild and crazy effects. I figured everyone here would be pretty bored with seeing Slickrock in its natural state (stunning though it is), so I decided to "remix" the sucker, where garish and eye-popping are desirable characteristics (right?!?)

NOTE: For anybody who'd like to see the "straight" versions of these pics (like the one below), I've put together a page of them on my website, click here.

My impression is that the demise of Slickrock is greatly exaggerated. It's still amazingly strenuous for its length, almost totally unique in its purity of purpose, and an overall rewarding ride that should be experienced at least once by every "real" mountain biker. There's just a lot of other stuff around here these days that delivers more "bang for the buck" on modern bikes for serious riders, I'd say. Of course, I'm a "tourist" on a pretty "unreal" bike, so perhaps I'm not the best person to comment.

I liked this thread very much. I rode Slickrock last year before catching some kind of stomach flu which ruined the rest of the trip, but at least I got to try this classic.
Great shots, you're the PhotoShop master!

Stick to using PS in subtle ways. IMO, these kind of effects ruin pictures unless you're really, really good at applying them.

When did two mouse clicks (all that's needed to apply one of Photoshop's image filters) become "mad photoshop skills"?

If a photo is good, it doesn't need a cheesy filter.

This post is one of those "lookee here, I just got Photoshop" things that will pass with time, if the OP is interested in posting quality photos.
