There is more than one "shore" ya' know.
Did my first Century. Does it count if it took four days? What the heck, a 100 miles is a hundred miles. Got out early and took the road bike for a road ride each morning. Left the condo in Ortley, heading south on 35, hit the Seaside boardwalk, carefully avoiding the remains of the previous evenings freak show. Those in the know, know what I'm talking about. Off the boardwalk and south into Island Beach State Park. Saw a red fox one day. Had a sea bird tag along for a kilometre or so another. Discovered a marsh I always missed another day.
Great ride when the wind was at your back, not so great when you change directions. Lots of wind this time of year.
Passed by numerous surf fisher people intent on driving on the beach. Passed by even more vehicles full of families intent on sitting on the beach. Passed by people on mountain bikes. Passed by people on road bikes. I get passed a lot.
Beautiful weather but, oh, was the ocean flat. Lake Atlantic I called it. No reason in the world to take the surfboard out after riding the bike. Too cold anyway. Low fifties may be acceptable to people on the left coast but its darn cold around here, even with a full wetsuit, booties and gloves. Anyway, no reason not to lay on the beach or sit around with our neighbors and share a beer as we welcomed in another summer season.
Looking forward to hundreds more road miles this summer.
God, I love summer!
