I don’t have any numbers but they are heavy. I know some folks that have light builds on those frames and the total bike weight is impressively hefty. Those same folk rave on the ride quality though.

I'd say easily over 5lbs even in the small sizes.

I weighed a full bike

I weighed a size small 2007 Ferrous in the store (bone stock) and was unpleasantly surprised to get a weight of 28.9 lbs. Some of the heaviness of the frame is attributable to the EBB but the ride (urban test ride) was indeed great.

I just had a Ferrous crack on me so I stripped it of it's components and will be taking the broken frame to the shop this evening. I'll weigh it there and post it's naked weight here in a day or so. By the way, mine is a Large or 19".

Oh, I don't like the sound of that. Where did it crack, out of curiosity?

To the OP, I think that my frame w/out EBB was a little more than 4.5 pounds, but not as much as five. Sorry I can't be more exact than that, but it's been a while since I built it up.

Non drive side Seat Stay/Seat Tube junction. I was surprised it cracked as well.

OK, since I received my Ferrous as a warranty frame for a Rig this has me a little worried. I've been pleased with the frame, but I think I'm going to go clean it and check for cracks now. (It's raining here, so I might as well.)

With the heavy EBB my 17.5 weighed in at 6.8 lbs. Same weight as my Karate Monkey. Between that and the tire clearance issues I simply stripped it and got rid of it. For the cost of it I could of had 2 Karate Monkey framesets! Granted the ride was a bit better, but between the things I mentioned earlier it wasn't that much better ride to be worth it.

I just picked up mine tonight!

Weight of frame only, w/hanger, EBB and bottle cage bolts was 5.77 lbs.

19" (Large) Frame. We'll see what the final weight is when I get my components on it. I'm hoping ~25ish.

My Ferrous cracked on the drive side, same location in @ 8 months of riding.
I had a new frame in a week from Fisher. Hopefully it won't happen again ...if it does, about the only good thing that comes out of it is I can get a new frame color every so often.............

You building is SS? My medium is a bit over 24lbs with a steel fork.

I sure hope a couple (meaning 2) of issues with frame problems wouldn't steer you one way or the other. The Ferrous is a killer frame with excellent geometry. Mine is a 1x9, but I swap it out to SS every now and then.

Get one while you can as I don't think they'll be around after the 08 season. I wouldn't trade mine for anything... yes, even a Superfly. I know both bikes very well and I really do like the Ferrous better.

I'm going 1x9 ... so I think my 25ish estimate might be a little optimistic.

Oh well ... as long as it weighs less than me I think I'll be good.

I've got a 17.5 that's almost stock and it's at 28.5. All I have is a Thomson seat post and juicy carbons.

I never weighed mine with original parts. I'm building mine up as a 1x9, Oro Puro brakes, Thomson/Thomson, and putting on Rhythm Elites on her. We'll see, I'm not too concerned for a light bike as long as she's a blast to ride.

I am running XTR 952 cranks, Thompson/Thompson (31.8 Easton carbon bars), Stans Flows w/ Hope Pro 2s, On One steel fork, CK headset, ATAC carbon/ti pedals, Juicy 7's and Rampage/Exi tires. Not a light setup, but so far it has been durable and rides awesome.

Built up and ready to rock.

Thomson/Thomson, XO gripshift & med cage derailleur, 1x9 setup w/XT Cranks, Salsa Bashguard, Salsa34t, SRAM 990 11-34, Selle Italia SLR XC, CrankBros Directset, Geax Saguaru tires w/Bonti tubes, single ti eggbeaters, Formula oro puro, rhythm elite wheels, salsa skewers, big sweep bar, CC Ergo II barends, ESI Grips.

I've just cracked my second Ferrous frame. I can't complain about the ride, loved it. Fisher's been great (I originally cracked 3 rigs and the first Ferrous was a warranty). Each frame cracked within 6 months and all were in the seat tube/seat stay area. I ride on an average 3 times a week, weight 190, 6'1", and don't do jumps or big drops. As a friend puts it, I must have some bad MoJo. I'm thinking it's time to get a custom.

I'm down to 27.38. Did XO shifters and rear derailleur, Salsa carbon flat bar, FSA stem, XTR 970 crank, KMC 10 speed chain, Thomson masterpiece seat post, juicy carbon brakes, american classic Ti skewers, sram 990. Going to throw a set of ZTR 355's on, get some ti eggbeaters, and a new seat and i'll be done. I love the bike, best bike i've ever owned, the frame feels perfect.

You and I must be on the same diet. I'm on my 4th Fisher frame from one original purchase. I've had two Paragons and I'm on my second Ferrous all within about 18 months. Fisher has been great to deal with and have replaced all my frames pretty quickly. None the less, I'd rather not have to go through this so often. Be careful choosing your custom dealer, I've been through that as well. At least when your Fisher breaks they'll be there to replace it for you. When my custom breaks and that should be very soon my MIA builder will be no where to be found. I want a Moots or a Lynskey, I feel confident that they'll be around for a while.

It's either the diet or your MoJo is like mine. I thought about the custom factor also and that's why I went with Fisher after the first Ferrous broke. The Trek Rep thinks I should try the new Rig since it has been redesigned. I like the way the steel rode and I've already cracked 4 aluminum bikes, I don't think I want to go down that road again. A friend of mine has a Ti Black Sheep and loves the way it rides. I'm considering one of those but am still hesitant because of the "what if" they aren't around next year? I'm also considering a Gunnar or IF. Any thoughts?

If I crack this Ferrous, I am selling the frame and am gonna go with a Gunnar or Waltworks I think. Either way, they both have Paragon sliders and I want to try those.

My local Trek/Fisher dealer is looking to see if he can get this as a frame only. Anyone buy theirs that way?

for comparison, the size L (19 inch) Zion 737 EBB weighs 5.3087 pounds (w/ the stock water bottle bolts, but with the EBB drilled out to save about 30 g and using hardware store set screws for the EBB) and rides like a frikken DREAM with a manitou minute 29er / 100 mm / 48 mm offset.

best $149 i ever spent.

does the GF frame also use 4130 butted cro mo?

Nope, I tried to get a frame only through my buddies shop (Trek/Fisher dealer) and they won't do it.
