Fruita, lovely Fruita
I did the standard rides, in the standard places. Took the standard pictures. By and largely though, it felt more like a riding weekend than a picher takin' weekend. Day one was a solo run out at Koko. Day two was 18 road. Day three was an extensive tour of Koko, which was extremely satisfying. Day 4 was back to 18 road, and day 5, today, was an improbable, yet satisfying peek into the high country around Minturn.
Sequencitude:
Minturn, today.. I swiped this ride right out of the clattery beak of winter. I drove right by the exit, in fact. Spent the next two exits drumming my fingers on the steering wheel and looking at the mountainside in the rearview mirror. The old adage ran thorugh my head like a stock ticker... "always ride....always ride...." So I dove off the I-state and turned around. It was a funny sort of day out there. Quiet, quiet. With occasional groups of wildlife moving around in excited little clusters. A couple of magpies bustled and fussed over me, followed by several crows. The woods had that aimless feel of the last day of school.
A little bit of snow on the climb up.
Looking down from line shack. Just a bit of snow. I did a tad of postholing lower down. I had to fight for it a bit, but soon I was richly rewarded.

Very nice. Your photos are always wonderful.
We kept seeing your truck around town, but left on Friday for St. George.

You would actually notice a specific Dodge in Fruita? Did you see my buds Toyota in St George, who happened to be there?
Small town "pssst, pssst..."
Btw, Ant, nice fresh perspective.

Yeah, like "pssst... Did you hear about...?"
Did see a bright blue Toyota at Little Creek with a couple guys on nice bikes, but I'm a sucker for Tacomas.

Awful, just awful
Awful, just awful ... that I am having to look at such a great photo thread while I am stuck here at work.
At least I can get a vicarious fix.

Your words are as good as your images. Thanks for the hit. This is good stuff.

Sweet. I swear Fruita had the highest concentration of Yetis I have ever seen anywhere. Not to mention packs of beautiful women riding around.

Dude, you have a real eye for shots. Really nice perspective and contrast. What type of camera do you use?

A satisfying full-meal deal, as usual, with the words and pics making a tasty package.

I didn't just see the Yeti truck around...I think it was following me! (the campground in Fruita, the Kokopelli trailhead, and then yesterday evening in Golden). I suppose none of these are unusual places to see a Yeti, but so many days in a row was starting to get spooky.
Thanks for the great pics!

Isn't that the trail that runs between the day parking area and the campground at 18 road? I can't remember the name, but it's a super fun, buff roller coaster banking of the sides of a little arroyo.
I spent a little time in Fruita this fall and as always, it did not suck

These were taken with two different cameras. Half of the 18 road pics were taken with a canon a95, which is a fairly basic point and shoot. The other half of the fruita stuff and all of the Minturn stuff were taken with a Canon 1ds digital SLR. In an odd way, it is disappointing to see how well they compare....
