Downieville 04 Gathering photos and recap

Saturday a group of us rode from Downieville up 49 to Union Flat and then climbed the fireroad to Packer Saddle. From there we rode down Pauley Creek, 3rd and 1st Divide back to town. On the descent Suzie, Erika, and Maria were schoolin the boyz on the trail. I think Erika even made a few of them cry.

1. Erika on the way up
2. Suzie on the climb
3. Quick stop at the bridge
4. Suzie
5. Erika

you're obviously not real mtn bikers

whatta bunch of posers! riding up the hill instead of taking the shuttle? no one will take you seriously.

haha, good to see there are still a few people that aren't fat, soft, shuttle-taking wusses. back in the day, i used to occasionally see another rider on the chimney rock loop. now it seems like the only folks that ride it are the ones with motors, cuz the shuttle doesn't go there.

Sunday while everyone was shaking off hangovers and debating if they were able to ride I took the shuttle to Packer Saddle for a ripping time on Big Boulder, 3rd and 1st Divide with Jessica, Karen, and Margaret.

Great stuff. That's sure is 3 full days of riding. Just curious, but why skip 2nd Divide. One of my favorite sections of that area.

Too many chix in your photos. Please post more large, hairy guys next time. This is the new millenium you know.

Actually, there were so many fine women (who ride) I got dizzy. Should have staged the the Women of Mtbr Calendar photoshoot!

Ever notice that Frank is always riding with the ladies?

What's up with that?

Good hanging with you, Frank. It was a blast.

I did the Chimney Rock loop last year with a buddy. We saw about 20 dirtbikes, but no other mountain bikes. That's one brutal climb (not to mention the exposure). I was complaining about all of the dirtbikes and was informed that they made that trail and they have every right to be on it.

Lemme just add that the women in these shots are doing the toughest rides of the weekend.

The ones on the fire road are climbing Union Flat, a nice bruiser that climbs for 12 miles and 3500 feet... at elevation. The poseurs on the rock just climbed Big Boulder after Pauley Creek. Good work ladies and frank hefner!!

I was going to climb too but my dog ate my clif bars. Uhhh, I had to save my strength for bike sumo.

So that's what that blurry shot was.

Photo tip: If you're going to take a sabotage photo, make sure there is enough light to support a shutter speed over 1/30 or so.

1.6 seconds handheld should only be attempted by seasoned pros.

Wow, this was so much fun. Looks like I don't have to race to find a group of fast riders to chase around. Next time, more tequilla, better wheels and tires, and I definitely need to sign up for SUMO. So George, what size bikes were those....I just may build a couple and get the ball rolling around here. Two sets of bikes might make for faster elimination rounds! Sheesh, next thing I might be riding a motorcycle...Mark, any suggestions?

What are you doing with your hand in this photo, Jess? I don't think this picture is appropriate for a family site. Shame on you, Frank!

16 inch bikes with full size seat posts, stems and bars.

Nice pics- I especially like the one of the group in the car and the hike-a-bike.

Great meeting you, riding with you, and many thanks for shuttling us!

And TIA for taking care of my shock. Any ideas on what to do about a misaligned frame?
