What, no posts yet from JedFest 2004, aka the Downieville Gathering?

Wow, wow, wow. What a great time was had at the JedFest (Photo-John's name for the shindig). Gorgeous weather, trails in prime condition, many new faces and what seemed like hundreds of familiar faces graced D-ville campsites and trails over the weekend for the MTBR Gathering, graciously hosted by Zonic Man (Jed) and Cruizy.

Friday: Rides, rides, rides. I'll let others describe the rides they went on. The first pics are from Pete's Mt. Elwell ride. Fantastic scenery, lots of hike-a-bike. One serious crash by Jed, who hit his head and spent the rest of the weekend drooling into a cup. Yeah, helmets save lives, but now look at him! Some may say it's an improvement.

Saturday: More rides- the one I was on encompassed Pauley Creek (http://www.sierratrails.org/pages/tr...uleycreek.html) 2x and a couple of the Divides. Fricking awesome trails up there. I had a perma-grin on my face the whole time coming down Pauley. Many thanks to the kind folks who volunteered their time to shuttle us- Jed, Frank, Photo-John, the TROG boys and the rest of you- you know who you are). Later that night, a totally b!tchin' party on Downieville's main street ensued, with entertainment courtesy of the TROGS. Sumo Bike, aka two contestants on small bikes in a ring, circling and trying to make the other rider make a fatal mistake. (Somewhere out there is a video of Cruizy heading directly towards her unnamed opponent and hitting her dead-on, drawing blood. Woohoo!! The crowd went nuts!!)

Two kegs of beer (Hefe Weizen and Red Horse Ale) were provided by Capm & the Sacramento Brewing Company- nice score on that end, Jed. Thanks, SacBrew! Dee-lish!

Low on the list of "entertainment" is the bluegrass band who impotently fiddled as the Sumos burned.

Sunday was a disappointment, as far as attendance was concerned. Several small groups went out to ride, but many more people headed for home, citing prior engagements or hangovers as excuses. Hope to read reviews of Sunday rides soon.

Sorry if I left folks out of this post, but I'm operating on one cylinder here. I missed my nap today. I'm sure I left some very important stuff out, and I apologize in advance.

Great to see all my old friends, and great to meet the new ones. Enjoy the pics, and please add to this writeup!

Gary, aka fp

Pics:

1) Elwell. Push!!!
2) Jed
3) Pete
4) Pete's friend (sorry).
5) Alyse and the Fox fork she won at the party (one of two sweet Fox forks given out!). Man, there was some good sh!t being given away. Jed- please list the parties we should thank for this healthy swag bounty.

Edit: Woah- I forgot to mention the ten-year-old boy and girl who were making out in the back of a jeep we were following on the way to a ride. They were doing some stuff that I only learned last year! Whew.

Videos don't count?

I gathered with quite a few people Saturday morning before heading out with about five others. But UncleMTB and I lost them somewhere along the way.

More pics.

1) Frank, attempting a stream crossing. As far as I know, only Jilm made it across this, altho I didn't see it happen. So, he could be lying.

2) WTF? I posted this already. Sorry. Could it be that I'm secretly in love with Pete???

3) Photo-John, conquering his fear of tight singletrack on cliffs.

4) Jed and Cruizy's focked up bike. I don't know how he wears his glasses like that. Check out the derailleur. Yeeeesh. Yes, he managed to untangle it, and Cruizy was able to ride on. Good thing, too- I don't think she can ride an SS.

5) Why do I have so many damn pics of Pete?

Too busy to post all of my pics but here's some fruitloop riding into Long Lake on Friday.

Great two days of riding and ifor future reference, cell coverage is but 10 minutes or so from the camp site on Marysville Road. Much better than a fruitless 30 mile round trip drive up Cal Ida.

Three of you give a shat re: the cell coverage. My question- who gives a rat's ass???

And speaking of rat's asses, nice pic.

Gary:

You mainly have Fox Racing Shox, Titec, and WTB to thank for all the great giveaways. And especially Sacramento Brewing Company. Capm ALWAYS donates to MTBR events, and this was no exception.

Also, the Yuba Expeditions people were helpful as well, as always.

Thanks to you and to all for the great time. A full write-up to follow.
