IRC Mythos CX Slick pix and/or actual width?
So I'm looking for a semi-slick tire for a Cross Check that will see 60% dirt roads & logging roads, 35% paved roads and 5% mild singletrack. I'm leaning towards the Mythos CX slick because it looks like it fits the bill and generally gets good reviews - and (importantly) because it's very inexpensive.
I've searched the forums and read lots about it but cannot find any pix of this tire mounted or any mention of an actual width (I'll be running them on Delgado Cross rims).
Anybody have measurements and/or links to pix?
I'm also open to other tire suggestions...
Thanks!

The closest I can get are pics of my Mythos (on Delgado Cross) on my Niner SIR...
I did mount them on my CC once also. They fit, with room to spare - probably about 3-5mm on either side. But then I opted to go down a size to 40c with Ritchey Speedmax's. I'm running Cane Creek Strados wheels on the CC.
HTH,

I bought a pair for the same reason (cheap) for commuting miles. They work fine, but they seem to have the loosest bead of any tire I have ever used.

Thanks Randy!
Great pix - the Mythos looks bigger than I was expecting (good!). Is it a decent roller on hardpack and/or pavement? [As with most products] I've read such varying reviews - some claim it's a great roller while others say it's very buzzy on pavement.

a little buzzy
My wife uses them quite a bit, and they are kinda buzzy, but for an all around tire they roll nice, and she doesn't ride when there is much mud at all, so it works okay.
I believe that they will do well for what you are asking, especially if you are on double track 60% of the time.
I disagree with the bead comment above, it was murder getting those on a set of Bonty Race rims.

42 front
40 rear
They measure true to width.
I like them for farting around just fine, and the price is right. Gravel, pavement, and a little trail now and then. The bike is much different now than as pictured. It's a fixie fun machine now.

I'd agree (with the reviews) that they're mostly buzzy on pavement. But on hardpack, I find them to perform very well.

I think Bonty rims in general are a tight fit with most tires. Back when I was riding 26ers, I had a set of Bonty Mustang rims. They were tight with every tire I used. I had a set of Mavic wheels too (Crossrides), and there were a few tires that were looser on it than on the Mustangs.

Excellent.
So I have a Cross check and I'm wondering the exact same thing. Also looking for it for nearly identical usage.
I think I want something a little wider though... i.e. 45mm... or larger if I can squeeze it in.
I'm curious as to just how well the IRC fits on the cross and which size you are using.
great pics btw!

BTW, Also curious how they compare to the Ritchey Speedmax 42mm. Seems like they have very similar treads. Perhaps the Ritchey are a little smoother rolling.
Finally, how well do they hold up. The ritchey are very soft rubber for example and I tend to wear through the 35mm pretty quick. I do love them though and they are cheap.

Weird I think the forum is screwing up. It sent me a response but linked it to another thread, the wrong thread. What's more the response I'm responding to is not showing up here. I guess I'll just quote it.

I liked the Borough, fit fine, but had the same issue with its toughness... took a stick right through the casing and killed it. Switched to the Bonty DryX 1.75 which is about as big as will fit in there (bigger than the Borough) and is a more substantial offroad tire with a sturdier casing.

Yes, the Bontrager Dry X 1.75" is near the top of my list. But am extremely frustrated in trying to find any product info in it. Indeed there's nothing mentioning it on Bontrager's website but a single press release.

Here's a comparison photo I took last year. I can't really remember that much about the tire besides that it rolls well, the price was right, and don't expect too much on off camber muddy turns with it! :P
Here's another photo:

I would echo the buzzy pavement, nice roller on hardpack sentiments. They are great gravel road tires. I used them last weekend on my cross bike for a dirt century. Here's a picture on the back of my (stolen) Motobecane CXer to give you another idea of the size. They fit that bike and my Voodoo Wazoo just fine, so your CrossCheck will have no issues.
