I dont know about the paint myself. On a XC race bike it fits, but it just dosen't make the bike look rugged enough for an all mountain bike. But if it rides well, who cares what it looks like.

I can't belive I'm going to say this but,

The 08 line from Trek has come along way and looks really nice.I mean a 6"bike in at 28 pounds that's crazy light.I love the custom painted 36 Float's(I just bought a 08 Float BTW and its spot on best 36 to date)love the new QR system.Anyway am I'm droping my Nicolai's to run and buy a new 08 Trek?NO! but who ever does I don't see them not being happy.Plus before you judge look at the price list, and the fork and build kit options. The low end bike comes with a RS Lyric.Try getting that with Special ED.CF..

actually the suspension is quite different than the normal 4 bar. The new EX also has the same set up, more info here: http://www.trekbikes.com/fuelex/

The carbon "AND " aluminum ex's look hot IMO, but that bike looks like $hit.

What they decided to break the trend with their "AM" bike, and "raise" the top tube.

That's about the most redunkuless thing I've ever seen.

Yeah! I think all brands should see how high they can "raise" the stand over hieght?

Congrats to Trek for (finally) bringing their mountain bikes in line with the forefront of the industry.

Not so hot on the paint job nor the top-tube, but am curious how the new suspension plays out. Does this one have the full floater bottom pivot?

Anyone have some geo numbers?

Nice to have a 28# 6" bike with off the shelf bits.

About as clever and original as the rear pivot design?

http://www.split-pivot.com/

I like how DW positioned this design as the "cost effective" alternative to his dw*link (VeloNews, vol 36 no 15), while Trek is pitching it as the next big thing. I guess we'll see whose opinion (and case with world patent registration) pans out in the end.

DW has an economic and marketing incentive to do so. I'm not sure about his zeal to comment this way as he mentioned similar info in the IH forum. His previous posts have not seemed to make such negative comments about single pivot, FSR, 4 bar, vpp etc.

As far as suspension design marketing hype goes... Every company claims it has "the best" new suspension design, regardless of if it does or does not. Turner being the most outrageous example.

Overall this suspension design is an improvement to Trek's previous offerings, and includes them into the fold of quality suspension designs which is becoming more and more widespread through the spectrum bike companies. Good for us! More quality choices, Duh!

Actually no, the suspension is nothing special, it's a single pivot.

On the other hand, it has more neutral braking, so that's what the split pivot system is doing.

Well, this isn't much of a stretch considering the previous offerings. I would like to see how much better the braking is with this pivot location, but it is bound to be better than the last one just with the stronger rocker.

no it's a remedy. 36 forks and a bigger link. looks like a good bike curious that DW and Trek came out with very similar designs at the same time....

I think it looks rugged, as long as your not paying attention to the paint. That frame looks massive compared to many of the other offerings out there, unless thats an 11" kids frame. If its light and it works, why dog it? I hope the new pivot setup on the rear end works well, I haven't read any serious reviews yet and lord knows the old setup needed fixing.

Dont think so, look at how much more the downtube is curved on this thread vs the Trek ex9 and the angle the rocker link makes with the shock. If that isnt enough I'm pretty sure the fork here is a 36 where as the the ex is a 32.

Hmmm...

[quote=Kevin G]Treks are for roadies.[/QUO

LOL!...Well, it looks like the old Trek bashing for the sake of Trek bashing is still alive and well in some uninformed corners. No, I don't have a Trek MTB, so I don't have a dog in this fight, but our shop sells Trek, Specialized, SC, Haro, Maverick, and Turner. Even though we sell more Treks than any other brand, I observe less durability issues from most Treks than bikes in our other lines. As Jayem pointed out, this new approach on the rear in-line-with-the-axle pivot design may actually be quite effective. Even though I'm fairly sold on the VPP design of my Nomad, I hardly think that the single pivot design is dead and buried. Jayem...is your Turner the SP or Horst link model?

Anyone here ridden a Session 77? One of the guys at the shop bought one a few months ago and took it to Moab on our annual two week trip. Man, that thing ripped, and this guy is no cupcake rider like me. Here's a pic.

I noticed a comment from someone on this thread comparing Trek to Kona. Anyone remember Zedro on this site? He was a cranky, ill-tempered moderator in the past...LOL!, take that Zed...but he knew a little something about frame design and bikes in general. I will always remember what he said when Trek started coming out with longer travel, big hit, rocker link bikes..."Trek?, yeah it's the Kona that Kona should have made in the first place." BTW, Zedro owned more than one Kona and even made custom rocker links for them.

I think some people just see the name "Trek", turn off the brain, and go into denial mode.

The 2008 Remedys (or is it Remedies?) aren't on the Trek website yet. They appear on the dealer order sheets but there is no mention of color scheme so the parts/colors of that posted picture may not be accurate.
