I just got my bottlerocket frame and am undecided on the fork i was going to put a zocchi 66 but i decided to go to with 160 of travel instead and was wondering can the domain handle everything the fox can. I plan on riding alot of single track DH and mainly dirtjumps with some trail rides, becuase it is now my only bike. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated from anyone that has experience with either thank you
I've been riding the Domain for a while. The travel adjust is perfect when I want to DJ or Urban ride. Motion Control owns too, but it's ultimately your decision.
I have heard nothing but good things about the fox's durability but i havnt really heard anything about the domains, another reason i reason i really like the domain is the 1.5 steerer tube i wont have to run a reducer.
One thing I do like about the new Van36 is the QR. Durability wise the Van is nigh on bombproof. I rode a friends SXT with the new 08 Van36r and it was a nice compliment to the DHX5 on the rear. Overall I was pretty impressed by the Fox.
Can't comment on the Domain because I have no experience with one.
most of the reviews I've seen of the Domain is that it's not so awesome, it was covered in MBA and Decline recently and neither were too thrilled with it. It is afterall a budget long-travel FR fork
I would go with the 36, or a zocchi 55 when it's out
Let me re-do. The domain is like a mini-totem. It's plush, strong and heavy. It's Maxle, so it's easy to take off the wheels, and it's also a good colour. You can remove the stickers on the bottom if you want a clean looking fork too. The Domain is basically deathproof (More than bombproof)
I smacked this thing so many times into a rock garden crash at N*, stuff like Lower Karpiel, Dog Bone, etc. Crazy 4ft rock drops all over. I've got a scratch near the seals and a scratch near the rebound knob. No performance effects/dents whatsoever.
Also, the Domain IS allows compression dampening, and rebound adjustment. Along with travel adjust for whatever you want to do.
I do have a budget but suspension is my priority so i can spring for the extra and this build will be a pretty much one bike for everything build and im more concerned on the durability, and i think i will definitely push the limits on the 160 travel but i dont want to go to big because i do alot of DJ. The biggest drops i have done are 15 footers to smooth trannys and im not to worried about that.
also i tried looking for the article in decline and i wasnt able to find it? any links

Ive been researching as much as i can and I dont think i can beat the domain for the price and the adjustability option and it sounds pretty ****ing tough. Thats really what i think im looking for
i was seriously considering the domain and z1 rc2x as i was on a budget. the reviews of the domain are mixed and the weight is no more than a 66. i got a deal on a 36 rc2 off e-bay even though i had my concerns, reliability and durability are major issues for me as i dont plan to keep upgrading. well i fitted the 36 and noticed the lowers were cracked on the right side at the pinch bolts. so me no happy and now i gotta contact the seller as it was not in the info list(obvious reseans). if i had the monies i would look at the lyrik but now i will seriously consider the domain.
eh good luck with the seller though, ive had to deal with these kind of occurences and i hate sellers sometimes. One guy kept insisting to me he shipped out my frame, yet every week he would send me an email saying he was bringing it to the fedex depot to get it shipped. after a few weeks i caught on and filed for a chargeback(he was trying to scam me). Maybe the original owner could get it warrantied for you, but likely not since thats probably the reason he sold it.
do you have a link to the auction? i dont know why but i want to see it (i was about to bid on a 36 this might have been it )
im not sure probably all of them, since fox keeps making stiffer lowers, i guess it makes them more brittle as well (MAYBE! IT MIGHT JUST ALL BE A CASE OF OVER TIGHTENING)
heres a pic i found of what juan might be experiencing
this is a 2006 fork. it would seem the pinch bolt method will always have risks as you just dont know if you are gonna over do it. i think the change to a maxle type will help. still it is a shame as it feels so good and there's no easy fix. i dont see the point in keeping it and riding it till it breaks right through.
