Tres Perfect Days in Derangedeo
So as the masses left Durango, I headed in. Passed all sorts of folks leaving town from the Memorial Day holiday. I had 5 rides over the course of three days. Not a bad ratio at all.
The first ride was up on some of the singletrack at the Fort with my godson. He was cranking along fearlessly on his 24" wheeled MTB, showing me his favorite lines.
After those festivities I headed up to the Colorado Trail. We headed out and up, past Gudy's and past Dry Fork and up beyond the rock slide. Conditions: Perfect.
On the way back down we ran across two other bikers, one of whom was on his very first ever mountian bike ride. Talk about getting spoiled form the outset...
So after a meal at Zia that couldn't be beat, I slept the sleep of the just and woke up early the next morning for a Hermosa Creek out and back ride.
I haad a brain wave while riding this trail. Hermosa is a fantastic ride. Lovely singletrack in a lovely setting. And i pondered on how people can call it overrated. Then it hit me. This is the ultimate test of a trail's legitimacy. If people call it overrated, then it simply must be ridden. So I shall create a guidebook of "over rated" trails, and I shall use the search feature herein to find the best of the best "over rated" trails.
After this lovely bout of singletrack climbing, I returned to my friend's house and my godson insisted on riding down to the BMX track, so it was back in the saddle to give the tired legs a flogging trying to keep up with an exuberant 9 year old.
The next day (aka today) I headed up to Horse Gulch for a buffet platter of the various tastiness on offer there. Today's smorgasboard consisted of Horse Gulch Road, Telegraph, Anasazi, Stacy's, Mikes, ********, Cuchillo and back down into town. Lovely stuff, just lovely.

That wasn't you I passed on Big Canyon Monday with the kid on the 24" bike and the girl in full body armor lying in a ditch was it?
Ahhh... the Secret Trail. Now more frequently ridden than just about anything in Horse Gulch.

Anthony, great to be able to see your pictures again. Thanks for sharing your rides.
