Earley New Year's Ride 12/30, Wilson's

As the end of another year draws near and I've gained my annual winter weight of 10 lbs already, I figure its getting close to having another New Year's Ride. Knowing full damn well all of you including myself plan on partaking the influences of alcoholic persuasion, I figured I'd have this New Year's Ride a little early this year. So on Saturday December 30th plan on
The Goat's Wee Little Turtle Epic.
Yes, it will be in the tradition of 35 + miles and I will guarantee to entertain you with feats of looking like I could ride forever in my first glorious 10 miles where upon I will succumb to the realization that I have only ridden 15-20 miles a week for the past 2 months and will become the turtle of the group. But fear not, as there may be a bottle of something special in my pack that I will be willing to share around the round table of fearless Knights who wish to join me on my quest.

Where might this happen you ask? Wilson's Creek of course. The long back country technical downhills and relatively moderate climbing ( 6,000 + ft worth) on gravel roads entices the pickiest of riders. Let me know if you want on as this ride will have limited spaces due to the nature of the trails and area.

Jeremy- I'm pretty sure I e-mailed you the old-fashioned way, but I'm planning on this as well...hopefully, there won't be another Mike-bike explosion like yestereday...

Note to self: Sometimes, some people go faster than me and I cannot keep up with them...
Extra note to self: This is especially true chasing Dennis H, MJ, and Ben P down Black Mountain...

Got room for another?

I wouldn't mind the upper route we did last year around this time. At least it required NO DEEP creek crossings .

Jerry, your welcome to come. Unless its bone chillingly cold out I will be doing the Long 181, only leaving the point vehicles at the dirtmounds. I gotta show my Asheville peeps what I've been raving mad about. I'd rather climb a dirtroad out in the dusk( hopefully it won't come down to that) then descend Sinkhole in it.
The upper Wilson's trip is reserved for Dave B's Birthday ride if he can make it out again around that time. End of January I believe.

Not sure what the long 181 means but, the less we shuttle the better.

Now how about those dry creek crossings.

Dave's a daddy now , hopfully he can make it out for his birthday

Long 181 means 40 + . leaving the vehicles at the dirtmounds, parking at the usual spot in Ginger Acres. Bring a camping light for the climb out of 981. Hope not to need it but just in case.

Got a good group of riders who have emailed or replied saying they are coming. For those of you who haven't, the ride is offically full.

Dave, there is a $5 dollar washing & handling charge plus a dollar a day storage fee for your clothing. Bout $80 bucks sounds right!

For everyone on the in for this ride remember to bring some cash. Wilson's Trading Post is always open and about 20 miles into the ride. Ain't not atm round here, son.

I had a horrible time.
I hate 29'ers.
Riding hurts.
When are we going again?
Funny, when I got home all I can smell is rotten tomatoes... or maybe just one tomato.
Morganton convenient stores have more varieties of MD 20/20 than I can walk away from.

It's beginning to look a lot like Icycle 2007!!!

Great ride.

I thought it was really kind winter weather for taking a Baptismal submersion on the Greentown Plunge creek crossing.

Thanks for posting the pics Tomato and PP. I forgot my camera in my truck. Thanks for everyone who came out. You made my annual New Year's ride spectacular as always even if I did have a few runaway cattle . You know every picture I see of myself on my bike makes me wonder if I should go 29er. My bike looks to small. Maybe I've just been hanging out with the 29er crowd to long.

Boycott 29'ers. They are for losers who can't handle a man's bike.

Trying to surpress your inner feelings with negativity huh Dickey. Your bike sucks and you know it, so except the truth.

Thanks for the camers work Eric.

15 riders
9 of them on 29's
There were more rigid S/S bikes than full suspension.

From the Charlotte area we had:
Sam aka Spoke on the Turner
Rob C on the 26" On-One Inbread
Jerry aka Enoch on the Rig
Craig aka Roach on the Transion
Dave aka Surlydave on the Soma
Rich D aka teamdicky on the Dean with purd wheels
Josh aka the wonder boy on the green Zion
Jack C on the Niner
Chris P? on the green Lenz Leviathan

Next time we'll wear name tags!

Since I'm not sure who Chris P is that leaves either the Lenz guy or the Maverick guy off the list.
Are you keeping track of points?

That would be Chris Pitts on the Lenz. He basicly rode all day with NO REAR BRAKES.

Did anyone NOT fall down at least once?

I fell last time I crossed that. After climbing a nice mountain on my DH bike I get to be insulted by falling in a slippery creek.

Wilsons is too fun. Ya'll are crazy on all them goofy bikes.
